The Definitive Marvel's Daredevil thread

So, I bought a cheaper version of the gloves, and either I have really small hands or these are abnormally large. I got the medium and they are very loose, plus the knuckle part seems way too wide. I'm not sure how they're supposed to fit, but I'm pretty sure it's not like this. I think I'm going to exchange them for the small.

The ones you got are nice, they go up the wrist more. Probably more comfortable.

You're probably in the same situation as me. My hands are halfway between small and medium. I ended up getting small, making the real ones snug on me. My hand is 7.25x4.25 in (with thumb) btw for reference.

I'm a bit concerned now, I ordered my shirt from compressionsale and it hasn't arrived yet, but I have a suspicion I'll be in the same situation as everyone else regarding the shirt number mixup. Might just order a cheap black shirt and be done with it.

I just got off the phone with compressionsale.com customer service. No one is getting the 8840r is what it sounded like. He said it has been out of stock which is why we were sent replacement items. He then tried to tell me it just went out of stock which is why the website hasn't been updated (he claimed the guys who change it have been out of the office over the weekend) but then I reminded him that wasn't true since I ordered this mid April.

I'm not going to pay their ridiculous return fees if they try to make me, this is completely their fault.

I just spoke to their customer service (unapologetic is putting it mildly)... they're completely out of the 8840R... if they send you something else, that aint it... only thing they're offering is a second choice shirt offer or a full refund once the shirt has been returned. Pretty crappy customer service. I'll make sure they never get another dime from me

I just got off the phone with them myself. We must have swamped them with phone calls. I started out saying I can give you my order number about a shirt I ordered that was not the shirt I received. The lady just started talking about the compression shirt and it being a replacement. She was actually nice to me and told me to email the customer service email. (same one as on the receipt) and explain what happened and they would give me a return authorization. I explained several times I didn't want to be charged a restocking fee or any other fees for an order that was wrong and not because of any fault of mine. I was told every time I would not be charged any fees. I have taken screen shots and pictures on my phone, saved the conversations...everything just to make sure they don't lie to me.

On the other hand... I did go to the McDavid website and they do still have the 8840, but only in XXL. I am a L, but often wear XL under my hockey gear.... for the clearance price, I order the XXL....not that much difference in the L and XL's normally so figure this can't be too much bigger and being compression it shouldn't be loose. If it is a horrible fit I am sure I can put it up on ebay and get my money back.

Yeah I finally got a reply from them this morning (albeit, from my largely furious email) they've offered me a refund, and let me know that the 8800 (not the 8810) was the actual replacement. I said I would be happy with that one though given I probably won't find the 8840 anywhere and the 8800 is more expensive; thus, saving money. Although, judging from the pics above, once you remove the logo it's actually not as inaccurate as I thought!

Here's my progress on my face shell. I need to work on the nose bridge and sand some of the accents down but I like the way it's headed. And yes this is a modified version of a kids batman mask. The material is an old under armour shirt that hasn't been tailored to fit yet. Very nice. Maybe if you sand down the nose and eyebrow ridges, it would look perfect. to the side it looks too much like batman, from the front looks good

I think at this point we can safely conclude the 8840R is extinct. :(

For those wondering, I got the exact same shirt PunisherNC did. But given all the trouble everyone else is having in getting the proper shirt, I may just keep it and use it anyway...Don't really want to put up with the hassle of a return, and it's pretty damn close anyways...

I'm in the same boat too really. It may not have the hex pattern but it does have the red stitching, and only requires the removal of the logo!

hey guys

Sorry for my late reply. It is some sort of upholstery/wallpaper type material.. 1mm thick, fabric lined. It is mostly used for wall decorations in KTVs. Sadly no stretch. The color and pattern do look nice. Can be used to make jackets for sure. Pretty cheap, too... about 8 usd per meter. They had a lot more of them but I did not have time to take pics of all of them. I even found a fabric that resembles the new batman suit quite nicely. I'll keep looking.

I have to admit, I'm a tiny bit irked by the black costume being almost all found items; it means nobody's working on the final costume!

Anyway, I've been whittling away at some of the costume parts for eventual Pep/print purposes, and while I'm not done with anything yet I'm close enough to there on some pieces that I feel I have to get input from you people to handle any lingering inaccuracies. So first up:

The Bracers

Judging by the egregious buckling whenever his wrist is anything but straight, I feel it's safe to assume these were cast as a flat sheet, and hold their curve purely by tension from the straps. The straps initially looked to match the rubber of the bracers, but wrinkling in a few shots (and what appears to be a seam at times) make the strap appear to be a rubber-look fabric strip. Perhaps they were sprayed down with rubber to match, but considering how much of this costume seems to have been done on the cheap, that looks like a path they wouldn't have taken, and likely just got lucky with a match. I'd say leather, but... nah. They'd have to use thin glove leather to get that kind of wrinkling going on, and it wouldn't make sense to me to go that thin on something so integral..

Forearm strap uses a tri bar slide adjuster with a matching hook on the front of the bracer. The rear end of the strap looks to have another adjuster holding it in place, but directly attached to the bracer (no hook) hence the more flush fit.

Wrist strap is... inconclusive. Same material as the forearm strap (wrinkles like fabric, rubber-look when taut) but there's no visible closure mechanism in any screens I can pull up. Possibly just Velcro underneath, and a whole lot of over-thinking on my part...

Aaaaaand that's all I've got so far on the research end. They're pretty simple as far as I can tell, just black rubber sheets with a couple of straps and off-the-shelf hardware.

My Progress So Far

(I only just realized the forearm strap is on backward in the ortho shots! Sorry!)

So, thoughts? Criticisms? Suggestions? Reference is hard to come by outside of the show itself, so more eyes on this would be fantastic! IMO, the only thing that's left to do is clean up some messy faces, otherwise it's done, but gosh, I really wanna hear someone else say that! :D
