The Death Star Tile Project

I've started working on recreating the Death Star Tiles from Star Wars. Not sure what the end use will be, possible recreate them at Studio Scale, possibly at other scales for other uses.

The first step is to computer model the tiles with all the details. The files can then be used to CNC, laser cut, 3D print or create patterns for hand fabricating the tiles. The models are based on a variety of reference materials including photos and scans of the original tiles and also the display base tiles Bandai includes in some of their kits.

Here are the computer models for the first tile which is finished. The second and third are in progress.

the thought has come to mind Joberg! I actually have several projects planed, in various scales.

These are pretty cool. And I've wondered, knowing how big the death star is, and that these random shaped and detailed tiles aren't even seen from long shots....I wonder how big a person would be if standing on one of these tiles, if all to scale.

The tiles were used in various ways all sorts of shots so it's impossible to say how big a person would be in relation. I would think a tile might range from 50 feet across to more than 500 depending on the shot.

Then maybe a close up of the dish, from the model. Guess a person would still be a tiny speck. I also thought a cool shot would have the camera far away, then it zooms in until you are right up to one of these tiles all the way up to a window where someone is looking out into space.

Hey, I just came across this post. I’d like to thank you for your file work. I took your files and added saber hooks to them and am making them into a saber display.
