The Curse of the Skywalker lightsaber...

A buddy of mine forwarded me part of an article and in it..it gives a theory
about the lightsaber we all love (ROTS, ANH, ESB and TFA) and how it is kind
of cursed.. anyone see this?

here's part of it.. I will find out where he got it so I can reference the
author.

" So...after watching the Force Awakens again, I have a subplot that I think
needs to be explored:

Anakin's light sabre....hear me out,
Originally Star Wars was about the rise and fall of Anakin, however, the
only Mcguffin (to use George Lucas's own word) is Anakins light sabre. Now
Jedi construct their own light sabres using the Force, crystals, etc.
Somewhere between episode 1&2 he constructed his. But this one is special,
maybe he constructed it in a fit of rage. I believe a light sabre reflects
the energy that was put into it when it was made, hence the sith ones being
red and Kylo Ren's being unstable. So imagine Anakin built his while
frustrated, so instead of enhancing just good energy, it can enhance/magnify
light or dark. So as Anakin became darker in episode 3 it reflected that
darkness and allowed him to kill Jedi, even maybe making his transition
quicker (which would explain away the super quick change) So Obi-Wan takes
it, not knowing it's capabilities. Passes it on to Luke. Luke has it, while
training with Yoda, he faces himself as Vader (the sabre showing him either
path) he then faces Vader in reality and at his lowest moment Vader Temps
him. However, Vader (even he not knowing the power of this sabre) cut off
Luke's hand with it, which allowed Luke to stay strong and avoid temptation.
(Had Luke kept the sabre it would have reflected his self doubt and
amplified Vader darkside) Luke then builds his own green light sabre with
the correct energy and holds true to the end. The sabre is always looking
for its new owner (good or bad) that's why it calls to Rey and why Kylo
wants it so bad. In solitude Luke realizes the power of the sabre, hoping
it's gone forever, but then Rey shows up with it, and that's why he has his
look of remorse/hesitatiation when she tries to give it to him. He knows the
sabre can create the most evil sith or good Jedi and it takes that sabre to
bring balance to the Force. But as long as anyone wields it, they have the
potential to be swayed.
Thoughts? "

The only part that is wrong with this is the saber was made between 2 and 3. It did slaughter younglings though.

It's a good theory. I like that thought. But I really hope they don't go this direction. To me, this is too close to Harry Potter "the wand chooses the wizard" idea where the wand is somewhat alive and has loyalty to its proper owner.
A lightsaber should absolutely reflect the skill and personality of the one who created it, but I think that should be it. I'm okay with the "It calls to YOU" line because maybe it's just the Force swaying things in Rey's favor a bit and not the actual lightsaber doing the "calling".

I prefer to think it was Obi Wan's ghost calling Rey more than just "the force" in general; If they could use Ewan McGregor in some way to bring back the force ghost of Obi Wan (mo-cap and a good CG Alec Guinness) I'd be ok with that.

The reason lightsabers can 'call' to Jedi is that the Adegan Crystals that power them are calcified midi-chlorians. ;)

I thought you were bringing up the fact that "THE CURSE OF THE SKYWALKER LIGHTSABER" is that the wielder is destined to lose a hand. Sometimes twice.

I hypothesize that the begining of Star Wars Episode VIII : Hand of the Force <---you heard if from me first! will be Luke Skywalker freaking out that Rey is pointing his old lightsaber at him and he'll wig out completely and lop off her hand with his green bladed lightsaber. The circle is complete.

The two things that have me disturbed about this lightsaber are: Anakin used it to kill the younglings and who knows how many Jedi, and too, that it calls to Rey with distressful cries of her as a child. I get that the saber / or the room (Luke on Dagobah-esque training room anyone?) needed to show Rey the Kylo Ren chasing her scenario because he was literally on his way to do so and she needed to be warned about that, but why not ease in to it with "Hey, hello, I'm a lightsaber, wanna come and play Jedi Knight with me?" It could move on through the introduction of itself with "I'm the Skywalker Lightsaber, you might lose your hand if you wield me, but seriously, you need to learn how to use me super fast because a wacky Dark-side Force user is coming to murder the $#!T out of you like right now. Oh yeah before I forget, give me back to Luke Skywalker I really liked that guy. P.S. Obi-wan Kenobi is your father, he was cool too. Dude kept me safe and dry for 19 years!"

Interesting theory but it's too close to the One Ring in Lord of the Rings.

Except Kylo Ren didn't try to murder her? He would have had a tough time reading her mind and getting the map if she were dead.
Even near the end he just wanted to disable her, to bring her to Snoke as he instructed, and then to teach her himself as he said, not murder her...

Also Force visions or whatever you like to call them aren't necessarily straightforward. Remember Luke's? Yoda's (from Clone Wars)? Ezra's (just watched it today)? There's always the possibility that she's remembering things that were repressed and seeing visions of the future in the same vision. I see the vision as a call to who she is, who she was, and who she will be.

Except the Skywalker Lightsaber doesn't have a brain. We know what the story is and why he's coming after her because we're privy to both sides of the story. It would have a tough time distinguishing between "maybe the evil Dark-side First Order guy is coming to murder her, orrrrr, maybe he's just coming to Force bone her conscious mind for a bit to tear a map to Luke Skywalker out of it. And since the Skywalker Lightsaber just might have a problem with Kylo Ren killing Luke, it showed Rey a vision that was not necessarily straight forward. "Great evil is coming, get the hell out of Dagobah!" could be quite a different set of future possibilities depending on how she interpreted it. "RUN!" was a pretty good interpretation in the training room, it got her out of the nightmare vision she had entered into once inside. Shoot at the bad guy and run away, almost worked in reality, but she didn't have an option to 'wake up' when she was confronted by the actual danger and it caught up to and overwhelmed her.

Whatever the 'call' was, leading back to whether or not the Skywalker Lightsaber is bi-polar, did it have to send the 'come find me' part of the message in such a dark manner?

And, further, if we assume Maz Kanata's cellar is a training room like Yoda's was on Dagobah, maybe it's the presence of the "Your weapons, you will not need them." within the training room that sparked the dark message when she 'had' the lightsaber in the training room once she touched it?

Or maybe the cellar was imbued with the Dark Side of the Force and the Skywalker Lightsaber was sort of stuck in anger, fear, aggression mode and wanted the first Force sensitive person that came along to get down there and rescue it from the training room. Since it was freaking out, it gave her a freaky message.

Until someone writes it down in a Disney book or it shows up in one of the movies and it becomes canon, it'll be fun to postulate what the truth of it may be!

The "he" I was referring to was Kylo Ren, not sure if that's what you meant. And the lightsaber doesn't have to have a brain in order to spark a vision. I believe objects have "called out" to others through the Force in the SW canon several times. Kyber crystals for example, holocrons, etc.

I don't see the message/vision as a whole as "dark" necessarily, if you mean "evil" or "bad" by "dark." I mean the Force, to pull from Narnia and Aslan, "is not a tame lion." Just because something is good or light, doesn't mean it's nice or pleasant. She saw Luke, she saw (according to JJ) images all relevant to her and her life. Is "Rey, these are your first steps" dark? Not particularly. Maybe it's a challenge, but not a threat. Was there darkness in the vision? Of course, she saw destruction, she saw Luke "leaving," she saw Kylo Ren (we don't know the context yet but still). In fact the reason why she ran probably has something to do with the violence inherent in the story of the lightsaber, the story of the Skywalkers. Will there be darkness in the future? Of course! But I think the vision is calling her to embrace her destiny, with Luke (as Maz Kanata says.) So I don't see it as a dark vision overall, the darkness there is reality, which can't be escaped, but it can be resisted.
I mean you have a girl who has been waiting for her family, for her life to begin, really, for most of her life. And in my opinion this vision is a call for her to stop waiting, and go out and find what she was waiting for.
