Hello everyone! Starting to research more and more about this item and I've put so much time into research that I might as well start making it. I will be attempting to be making The Book of The Dragonborn from Skyrim (obviously)
So to begin I have been working on melting down some aluminum cans to get the main emblem on the black leather. I've only got to build my prototype forge. Today was a fail and 2 hours behind what I was wanting (melted aluminum) but for using some scraps thrown together to do this it's doing better than I had hoped. My IR thermometer maxed out at 600 and just started saying "High!" after that, so we got passed 600F first attempt. Tomorrow I have plans to make it work this time.
Since I plan using aluminum for the emblem I'm forced to make a mold into another metal that I could pour the molten aluminum into for the dragon. I have some iron or spring steel that I will have to engrave with a dremel.
I have found a place nearby that sells leather and plan to go there soon to check if the have black leather in the size I need. I have also learned that the dragon tongue around the book on the edges is the lyrics to the theme song (Starting at the top left "Dovahkiin Dovahkiin...") I doubt I am the first to find this but from all the props I have seen people either leave it out or just have random assortments of the letters in its place.
Does anybody know how the leather is engraved but still black? You can see what I am referring to where the Imperial Legion dragon symbol is and all along the edges of the book. I guess you could include the letters in this also. Thanks!
