The Book of Eli machete pattern - FREE

thanks all :$
actually I used 2x 25' spool of 1/4" deer skin lacing in "whisky" color and artificial black sinew. I tried to darken the leather with shoe polish, but I failed. I ended in painting the leather with acrylic paint.

thank you!
the acrylic stand is nothing special made for this project, just something that was lying arround in my storage. I believe I bought it on eBay for one of my Blade Runner Blasters years ago....

So... as good as we have gotten with these... I am just not happy. As most of you know, I have two of the screen used FX swords as well as one of the unfinished plastic blanks. So, I finally took the handle off one so we could once and for all KNOW how the handle is wrapped. Here is what I found.

Early on there was a lot of debate about what the handle material was. It is simple leather. What did surprise me was that it is much wider than I expected! It is between 5/8" and 3/4" wide! In its twisted state (which greatly shortens the length) it is 12.5' long! I don't know how long the original piece of leather would be... but I am guessing 25'.

Two other interesting things are that while the machete does not have scales, there is one layer of leather that is wrapped around the handle prior to adding the overwrap. Also, the black string (faux/imiation sinew) is one VERY long piece instead of two pieces at the front and the back. The sinew actually waps all the way up the handle, in between each wrap of the leather. If you look closely in the images below, you can see the black peeking through the leather.

So there you go. One step closer.

Note the black string in between each wrap of the leather.

Thanks, so much, Art, for doing this.

Now to get busy taking mine all apart to accurize it…

NOT!

However, I do have some aluminum blanks and will do one of those properly!

Here is my final machete. It is made from a production created blank and a screen used FX sword. We took the wrap off the FX sword, painted up the blank and put the FX wrap on the freshly painted blank. It isn't perfect, but I am pretty darn happy with it!

I have some spare aluminum blade blanks from the rpf run a couple of years ago if you would like to buy one.

Here's the 25" BudK blade compared to the screen-used (sorry Art - lifted your image)

Need to accept the additional holes and slots, accept the curved portion just above the handle (versus straight), wrap the handle, and remove the baked-on black finish.

Hi guys, I have just found thus website that sells custom lengths of aluminum. I had thought that perhaps it would be good to use for making a replica of this weapon. The only problem is I have no idea which grade or type would be best for a strong blade that could hold an edge.
Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated, Sorry if this is opening up a dead thread again.

I thought I would bump this up as I am finally starting my quest for a Book of Eli machete. Gonna be a few months before I can swing one even if I find one. Soooo over on my prop budget but I thought I would start searching and researching.

If you want to try building your own, the links for the patterns I made are still active. [emoji846]

Actually I am getting excited about building it. I try to buy when I can simply because I have so many unfinished projects on my workbench as we all have but, the more I study the free pattern so nicely provided here for us to use the more I am thinking building this bad boy might be fun and a way to get it just the way I want it.
