The Blue X-Wing model!

Page 26 in Sculpting a Galaxy. Any one have more pics/info on the Blue X-Wing props made for ANH? I never realized that pic showed a BLUE stripe - thought it was just B&W, lol.

I think that those were from the Ralph McQuarrie production paintings but then they realized filming against blue screen would make those stripes almost impossible to photography and matte, so they changed the color.

So there's just the one blue-striped X-Wing? Has anyone seen it since ANH went into production?

My next article in the SW Insider mentions this. Did they actually have a model painted blue though?
The early Cantwell model had blue and green markings, but I didn't think any of the real models ever did.

They went through the same thing with the A-Wings in ROTJ. Again they wanted blue markings, but couldn't do it with the technology.

Yep... so... any. one. seen. more. pics. of. blue. studio. scale. x. wings.

I've read the drafts. I have the McQuarrie pics. But I hadn't realized that one studio scale X-Wing had BLUE stripes painted on it. So naturally, I'm dying to know if more reference on this X is out there, and if this was recycled/repainted. In the Sculpting a Galaxy book, it looks pretty rough, so I'm guessing it's still kicking around.

Thanks.

Edit - Chris, you need to check it out - blue stripes on a studio scale X on page 26. I think I have seen this particular model before, but didn't realize it was a COLOR shot I was looking at (it's a pretty muddy blue ;))

LFL provided MR with a bunch of X-wing hero pics that all look pre-filming.

One of the hero X-wings is painted in the BLUE 1 livery. It probably was changed to prevent problems pulling mattes from bluescreen photography. Even after these models had been painted red, they still have the tags, BIGGS BLUE 3, JOHN D BLUE 4 and BLUE 12 attached to them.

Anybody going to do a book review? I am waiting on a Deluxe Edition for Christmas (hopefully) so I haven't had a chance to see it yet.

I've already written a review for this book. I snagged a bunch of freebies from the publisher and dropped hints about the deluxe edition (got one of the Dressing a Galaxy boxes free back when) but no dice.

Barry, thanks for the info. I knew there were blue screen problems, but I never saw anything painted blue oustide of the design study models. Fascinating stuff.

Glad to know more Blue X pics exist. Might be a fun variant to make.

Well whattya know - looks like 'ol Blue might have follwed Jammer to Elstree for this photo from July 2nd, 1976. It looks like the deco matches up to the Sculpting a Galaxy photo (leading edges of the wings, spots on canopy, nose, etc). I'm betting that fuselage stripe is blue.
