The Big Bang Theory returns tonight !

Do you even know for sure what show(s) if any uses a canned laugh track?

The dozen or so shows I've seen filmed always indicated the laughter of the audience was used in the show. Hence the live studio audience. Even "on location" portions of the episode are shown on monitors in the audience to garner audience reaction to those scenes.

Just because a show is filmed before an audience, doesn't mean they don't use a laugh track. The audience reaction is often enhanced.

I enjoy the show but recently they've really devolved into a lot of crude sex jokes and bits. Maybe they've run out of nerd based humor and now are exploring the sex lives of nerds.

Lots of Star Wars references in last night's episode. I loved when they were waiting for Sheldon to start watching the Blu-ray and Howard said, "Hurry up and push play before George Lucas changes them again."

My 13 year old son reminds me a lot of Sheldon - though in some ways he's much more socially aware, in others the comparison is scary. (he's usually 'on Sheldon's side' when he watches the show)

So last night at 11:55 he starts on a long explanation about how he couldn't get excited about midnight coming because there really was nothing more special about it than any other date or time and why it's all arbitrary...

Rather than argue with him, both because he was right and I was too tired to get into anything, I interrupted and pulled a Leonard on him. "It's an accepted social custom."

And he said, "Okay." Shrugged and sipped his Apple Spritzer.

I said it as a joke, but it worked!! Both my husband and I were laughing and I had to explain why his response was funny.

He didn't even care that it came from the show, the explanation was enough for him. So long as we knew what we were doing didn't make sense and was just 'social' he was okay with it. He just couldn't sit there and participate without making it clear there was no logic behind it.

I love it. It's my absolute favorite show.

You know what gets me? The way some people look down their noses at people who watch tv--yet usually these same people spend endless hours at the computer playing video games and talking on forums.

Who's the moron? :confused

I love TBBT. If you don't, I couldn't care less.
Why do so many people try to suggest that you're stupid, lack class or have a 9 year old mentality towards humor if you like a show that they feel is a fail? Sure, I can say that TBBT has won awards, has hit the ground running with huge success, has an incredible fan base, has been on for almost five years and they just resigned for three more years.
Hmmm. Sombody likes the show.
Of course this does nothing but give the naysayer an opportunity to say, "You're all sheep that will watch whatever drivel they put on TV. Now, if I like a show, it's because it's full of tasteful and intelligent humor. Oh, I understand my show was canceled after the first season but that's only because idiots don't know quality television when they see it."
This is known as an entertainment snob.
You don't like the show? No worries. Just don't try to convince me I'm a cromagnon because I do.

And yes. I absolutely LOVE Micheal Bay movies! :thumbsup

Ah, Funky, oh so true words. I thought to myself, "Man, that Funky, he´s a really swell guy", until...

...

And yes. I absolutely LOVE Micheal Bay movies! :thumbsup

Didn´t the guys already gave Bay a good ribbing?
And what about Uwe Boll? I do wonder when those guys will make a cameo on TBBT :p

I enjoy BBT and think it is fairly well written. Personally, I'm enjoying how the female characters are developing and how it's nice they can take the spotlight off of the males every now and then.

I don't understand how anyone anywhere could ever hang out with Sheldon, and especially how anyone could stand to be his roommate.

You mean you don´t know people like him? Naggy people, obsessed with miniscule details, living in a world of their own, immersed into popular culture, highly intelligent yet socially inept? Hm, now where could one meet that kind of people...

Egon, aw, give Sheldon types a break. ;) It's obviously an exaggeration, but I know (and live with -see my post above) people like that and it's really not as constant or intense as all that.

If we are going to take the characters as they are, Leonard is the only bearable one, but as they are, I find Sheldon MUCH more acceptable than Howard and his crude come ons and Penny with her shallowness. And how could Raj possibly function at a university if he couldn't talk to women at all?

The good parts about Sheldon that are really portrayed well, if not often enough on the show are his loyalty, honesty and quirks like his ability to lend money without caring when he gets paid back. Also, his ability not to get his feelings hurt when people tell him to 'go away' or they decide that the best option to which movie to go to is to leave him at home. It is what it is with Sheldon.

On the flip side, someone like Penny who was freaking out about when she thought Sheldon was judging her for not paying him back - reading into everything he said and did with her own paranoid POV ugh! THat would be horrific to have to deal with. Or how about the time she had them spending time to help her make money she needed and then she went on line to buy shoes...

It's an exaggeration of her personality, but I would get along with a Sheldon type before a Penny type any day. On the flip side - what I like about Penny is that she is friends with the guys. She accepts their quirks and doesn't act like she's too good for them. If it gets to be too much for her, she leaves the apartment or tries to point out what's going on, but she doesn't write them off. Most people like her wouldn't be that accepting.

That's one of the things that makes the show so great - the exaggerations and the ability of them to still be friends despite it all. There are so many people in this world who write people off for a TINY quirk or difficult hang up. The best way to learn to navigate that stuff and still be in each others lives without judging is to figure out how to laugh about it.
