The Best Ad I Have Ever Seen

Some of you may know I worked in advertising and marketing for sixteen years before I became the King of Independent Comics and as such I have seen A LOT of ads. Wrote them, produced whole campaigns, studied them, ads, ads, ads.

This one is flat-out the best ad I have ever seen. There are incredible ads, and epic ads, and good-idea ads, all kinds of award-winners.

This entire ad hangs on the writing and amazing delivery of Robert Carlyle:

Johnnie Walker, "The Man Who Walked Around the World" | Adweek

I've actually watched it three times this morning.

I have to agree, it's one of the best I've seen. More companies need to learn from this video. I'd rather see a classy ad like that than anything else.

For starters I am a Carlyle fan. I loved the balance between humor and the storytelling And the music. Very much enjoyed it. I think you loved the subject matter. lol

oh yea this was a great watch. definitely made me totally invested in the brand and the shot was great and genius! very very cool. is this airing somewhere in tv or just online?

Fastest 6 minute ad I've ever seen. Very well done. He almost flubbed one time, but recovered pretty quickly.

"The take that you have seen is the very last take we did at 8pm on the last day of the shoot. Take 40. The tension as we watched Robert do this take was unbelievable. It was such a good take at every stage and so the longer it went on without any fluffs the greater the pressure grew for nothing to go wrong. When he got to the end and I got to call cut there was this huge roar and applause from the crew and agency and I knew we had it."

THey did it in one shot, but who knows how many takes, or rehersals that it took.

I have to say, that is the single most impressive single shot that I have ever seen. There is one that was done by James Burke for the BBC, as he walks along the apollo moon rocket, but I think this tops it.

I absolutely adore Robert Carlyle. I'd sit and listen to him read off his grocery list if it was available! Thanks for sharing this, Larry.

Awesome commercial. Robert Carlyle is great as usual.

Is it weird that I just finished watching James Burke walking by the moon rocket in Connections episode eight, Eat, Drink, and Be Merry about ten minutes ago?

Incredibly impressive. I can only imagine the stress on that set.

Now we need a famous Kentuckian like George Clooney or Ashley Judd to do one for Bourbon!
