The Best Ad I Have Ever Seen

It succeeded on so many levels. Johnnie Walker doesn't care if it makes you like its ad or not, or even buy it product. It's own history has spoken for itself.

Well said. Lot to be said just for brand awareness. Not everything is directly tied to selling a product.

And for those who don't think this is art because it is paid for, make sure everything you ever do you give away for free so you don't taint yourself with the evils of money.

I only wish we could embed a YouTube video so you could watch this next clip without reading the title.

So do yourself a favor - watch the video, ignore the words around it. (Which will now be impossible to do because I suggested to).

Definitely a cool ad. Reminded me of a few scenes from Children of Men where they did the large scale action scenes all in one take.

I was debating mentioning that scene or not. When you look at all the things they had to pull together and the diificulty they would have had doing another take, the ambush scene in _Children of Men_ remains the best single shot scene I've seen.

However, in this commercial the monologue and action cues were primarily all on Carlyle, not divided amongst 26 different people. I also think the story told has great interest to a scotch lover but probably not to someone
who feels it is vitally important that there are 23 allen head screws in his lightsaber replica and not 22 slotted ones.

I have an unopened bottle of blue label in my booze cupboard still waiting for that special occasion. I keep finding excuses not to open it but I don't think I'll be able to hold off much longer.

I couldn't see Carlyle looking for cue cards. Some people just can't get it up unless they're cutting someone, anyone down. Rather than admire greatness, it's always "I could have done it better," or "I had it worse when..."

It was a truly great commercial.

I didn't agree with Steve's take on this particular piece, but credit to him, he's pursued his commitment to a career in art at a considerable personal cost. I don't know whether he'd see it that way, but your comment is truer than you know!

The only blends I have liked are Johnnie Walker and Dewars. Your average single-malt is most often better than your average blend, but Johnnie Walker Green is surprisingly better than a lot of single malts out there. My favorite is still Laphroaig.

Johnny is good (I keep Red stocked in my home bar, I will probably restock the black soon), but Lephroaig is amazing. I have a 10 year cask strength bottle myself. YUM.

BTW, if you mean the destroyed city scene where he's running through it trying to get to the mother and two armies are fighting, that turned out to not be a single shot. It was VERY cleverly editted together.

Marking this post so I can come back and watch the video when I have time. I love good ads, commercials and such!

Christina Hendricks! Now THAT is advertisement! lol
