The Batman

Batman just suffers from being a superhero. In real life the world isn't saved by lone individuals with physical powers.

The Batmobile -

It definitely does crap on the stealthy aspect of Batman. I always pictured it as something he would use sparingly, like his other vehicles & gadgets.

How do you make a car "stealthy" like the way Batman ducks in & out of the shadows? The answer is, you can't. It's a 20-foot-long 5000-lb object that has to mostly stay in street lanes.

The Batmobile really came to prominence with the 1960s TV series and the Futura model. That was in the peak era of America muscle cars & early James Bond gadgets. The Batman TV show wasn't bothering with the entire stealth aspect of the character so they were primed to go for a glitzy car. The Batmobile became over-represented in the franchise because that kind of thing translates so well to TV/movie action.

I think like so many icons that endure for generations the material either translates or it doesn't. While there's a certain amount of evolution to a character and different iterations can work for some of them it's now trendy to dismiss or belittle icons because undermining authority is considered cool. Even fictional authority isn't immune from subversion.

Plus when the powers that be can't create new icons there's only so much reinvention that can take place before they become unrecognizable. The other thing is the more that's changed to homogenize characters to set them on equal ground in the marketplace the less interesting they become as works of fiction.

Batman is not and should never be, Iron Man. They're two totally different personalities with two totally different motivations.

Critic reviews are out today and so far the word is pretty good. 87% on RT.

Apparently this is one of the best Batman movies based on recent reviews.

Gonna get spoiled (since it releases one week later here on March 11) but seems to be a good movie to watch.

Just to be clear, I wouldn't change who he is in any way -- just the suit. It seems to me that, with his resources, he'd want to use whatever advantage he could to help him survive and live to fight another day. He may be crazy in some respects, but I don't think he's trying to commit suicide by criminal.

Saw it in IMAX last night and the whole cast was excellent! Fantastic film!! Everyone clapped at the end in the theater I was in. This was finally first and foremost a Batman film, he is in the Batman costume 80% of the time, and in many was never Bruce Wayne even when he is out of costume. So far this version has come closest to the Batman character from the last 35 years of the comics.

The casting cannot work for me, just the way I roll sometimes. Have some other serious problems with the villains. I’ll only ask does he kill people?

I'm very much looking forward to this movie the more I see in previews and TV spots. I'll have to avoid this thread until I get to see it.

If he does, would that change your mind? I'm asking this question without malice but with a genuine interest;)(y)
I personally would like Batman to kill baddies. Period. No need to put these guys in some kind of jail for life. Just off them on the spot.
That's my 2 cents of course...:p

For me I actually insist he doesn't. My view is if he does it's not Batman. There are plenty of characters that do that, so it was a special part of the character I enjoyed. Granted such a thing can only exist in fiction. If this one does it just makes it even easier for me to dismiss. I remember Batman 89 and he killed like flippantly and nobody blinked. I was shocked nobody cared, and it easily could have been left out.
And he would have tried to save the Joker's life despite all.
I wish Nolan had not forced him to allow Dent to die. In fact I have a whole head canon where Dent would have came back. LOL
My view of Batman is getting very antiquated and I guess would not be popular enough for the studios and today's audiences.
I'm getting weary of all these movie outings with armor and actors I don't understand why they chose them. Even Batmobiles can't seem to just be a Batmobile. LOL
Mask of the Phantasm was animated but it did get released to the big screen. I'd call that one a damn a great Batman film I can fully endorse.
And I did think Batman Begins was mostly on point. But still not quite what I hope for one day.

I got the Batman I'd like to see on my desk. Well I have a lot of Batman's like that in my collection. LOL
Something Adams/O'Neil era inspired , back off the damn armor suits, and maybe they got the Great Detective portion right in this, but I can't
pick and choose from each movie, maybe if I could I could make the perfect Batman as I envision. For casting I'd be looking in the gyms for Bruce Wayne personally. Nobody has done that yet, and I generally get yipped at and scolded for thinking a body builder can act too. LOL

I grew up with the Adams/O'Neil era and I don't ever remember it being specifically stated that "Batman doesn't kill". It was a comic book like most all others, none of the super heroes did any killing really, not intentionally anyway. When did this whole "Batman code" start, because I don't remember it ever actually even being a thing.
