The Amazing Spider-Man (Post-release)

Went into this fully expecting it to fall short of the Raimi films and it BLEW them away (and I was a huge fan of Maguire's take on Spidey). Garfield was a fantastic PP/Spiderman and the chemistry between him and Emma Stone was ELECTRIC.

'LOVED it' is an understatement.

Just to bring a point up-I've heard people complaining about how the Lizard looks. For one instance, someone has said that the Lizard's head is supposed to have a long snoutlike shape. Now I may be wrong, but from looking at ASM #6 his head is in fact roughly human but with scales all over it. He did not have a snout at all.

Again, I may be wrong. That's just how I see the Lizard's head in the comic.

I know for me I wasn't really expecting a long snout like shape. It is shorter. I don't know what it is, maybe the design doesn't translate from the comic to the screen. Or maybe like Alan Cross posted with them trying to incorporate the actor's face into the design, it looks bad.

I'm feeling mixed about this film, but I cannot hate it. It was good, fun and way better than the Raimi films.

But in the end, it's complicated. There are a lot of other super heroes that I would love to see brought to the screen but thanks to this movie, they probably never will because it would be a risk and The Amazing Spiderman is a completely risk free movie. Now that DOES NOT mean it wasn't a good movie. I enjoyed it a lot. I just don't want to be stuck with only Spiderman.

I loved the movie, i was never fussed with the Raimi films, just didn't click as spidey to me, as a kid i read the comics, this version seemed to capture that, i'll be seeing it again

I feel exactly the same way. This was The Amazing Spider-Man brought to life. The film was so engaging I didn't give a second thought about the costume variation. I cannot wait to see it again.

Did anyone else immediately say "I hope someone on the RPF makes that shirt" when they saw Flash wearing the spidey logo shirt at the end of the film? *nudge nudge wink wink*

I liked it. Not as good as Raimi's "2," but better than his "3." I put it slightly higher than his "1."

A few folks have used the word "rushed," and I have to agree. The Peter-Gwen courtship, Peter's transformation after the bite, Uncle Ben's death, Connor's mentoring of Peter. All of these pieces were in the right places on the chessboard, and we all knew where they had to move. It all just went too fast for me.

I realize that in movies, when retelling an origin story - especially when the previous origin story is still fresh in a lot of people's minds - you have to use some shorthand. I just think they could have streamlined in other places.

Other nitpick - Gwen was just too perfect. Beautiful, smart, brave, perceptive, protective, mature in both thought and deed. And an intern in a multi-million-dollar genetics lab with 24-hour access all at age 16? C'mon.....

I've only read the Spider-Man comics here and there, so while I'm generally conversant in the major story arcs and events, I'm not terribly steeped in the mythology's history. Was Gwen supposed to be this impossibly fabeaux in the comics?

Peter's last line of the movie - "But those are the best ones." So, screw you, Captain Stacey. You gave your life to hold off The Lizard for me, and I'm going to píss on your dying wish with a cute quip? Yes, I know that Peter originally dumped Gwen to abide by Stacey's wish, and I can totally see how a 16-year old could rationalize himself out of sticking to that promise ("I can protect her. I'm smart enough to keep her secret from my enemies. She's already lost her dad; I can't break her heart even more by letting her think I don't love her.") I just think we should have seen/heard some of that inner dialogue before that cutesy quip.

Again, in all, I liked it. A few things just rang false for me.

Saw it and enjoyed it. a few inconsistencies, but not enough to trouble me too much. (When Peter shows up at the Stacy's having fought the Lizard in the sewers, Gwen's comment should have been "Peter what happened to OH MY GOD WHAT'S THAT SMELL GET OFF THE FURNITURE!")

I may not rate it as high as Spiderman 2, but well above 3, and maybe a touch over the first film.

And did anyone else catch that the costume was made by Cirque du Soleil?

I would say he used their technology for initial sample, but improved and reverse engineered it to create his own better webbing.

From what I could tell though, it's not a formulation he mixes together or Oscorp mixes together. From what we saw on screen it's a big machine that collects and spools up existing webbing into little canisters.

Also, anyone else notice his webbing would just vanish when he let go of it? When 'thwipting' Gwen's skirt, the web was immediately gone after he pulled her closer.

Wow! No, I didn't notice that. Quick, someone make friends with the folks at Cirque du Soleil and get some information/costume test pieces.

...I would, but my only circus ties are to traditional circus folk, and I don't think they'd be allowed to talk to me again if I befriended Cirque folkel.

Spotted a middle age dad with his young children walking out of aWalmart wearing it, someone is making them, maybe Walmart.

I'm looking forward to this, but I'm concerned about the webswinging. In two clips I've seen, he's crouching on something that's on the ground (mailbox, car), fires the web up at something, and then the web PULLS HIM UP. Whaa?!?!? Doesn't work that way, unless he attached himself to a helicopter.

He uses it like a bungee cord, pulling it back and launching himself. Or he could be pulling himself on the cord. Either way, this movie was way better than the Raimi ones, it wasnt corny and lovey dovey. It was awesome!

Not as bad as I was expecting, but sitting through the whole origin story was extremely boring so close to the last films.

Saw it last night.
Loved it! Can't wait for the next one!
Not as good as 2, but I didn't expect it to be.
Andrew Garfield > Tobey Maguire

And the mysterious guy in the jail cell at the end is:

Chameleon. Think about it...

AGREED. One hundred percent.

Yeah. Also Agreed. We pretty much had the same take on this movie. One more member and we're a club.

My guess is he'll regret that decision in AS2, when Gwen is killed off. He'll get all emo and more moody and be a bigger ******* than he was in AS.

Saw it and loved it! It does seem rushed in a few places, but that is understandable since we all already know the origin bits. I'm sure the film maker just wanted to get to the rest of the movie.

This IS Spiderman.
