The 89 MattMobile Build Thread.

can't he put up a picture? or install a webcam in the bat cave?

C'mon, I just need a little bump to get me through the tough times. I can't go cold turkey.

I've watched all his videos and been thoroughly impressed! He's also a fellow R2 Builder

He posts a LOT of videos so I think the Batmobile took a back seat for a bit

Hey Gang! Thanks for keeping this thread alive! I really appreciate it!

The MattMobile project is INDEED still alive and well. In fact, I've made a bunch of headway lately on getting the shop up to snuff so that I could get back onto it.

That said, MANY really fun and interesting projects have come my way over the past year, most of which have distracted me from the build. The main one was the TARDIS builds that fellow RPFer E-Wan and I dug into. That was a super fun build, and took a lot of time and patience. Along side that build, I got involved in a few film projects, like Star Trek Continues, Star Trek Renegades, and Fallout: Nuka Break. Each of those took much attention and time. Heck, the entire month of October was spent on set capturing footage.

I also started a business to restore Harley Davidson's, and that not only took up a lot of shop space, but also a lot of my attention.

That said, I'm hoping to film another video soon showing the status of the shop and the car, and how I want to push forward and keep it going. The car has DEFINITELY turned out to be an exercise in tenacity, which is not always my strong suit. :D

Hey Mat seen this one ?? Homemade Batmobile Up For Auction! - SourceFed No spinning turbine:lol

Took a look at that video. I'm pretty sure I've seen that car before, in a BBC news segment. There's a ton of details that are completely wrong on that car, but I suppose the fact that it's finished is worth something. lol. Somehow, the owner ended up spending 90,000 POUNDS to get it built, which I don't really see how that's possible, unless he was rippped off at every turn. (no pun intended)

Ah yes, here's an article on the car:

It's easy to recognize as the same one in that video that was posted.

New video coming shortly!

Got a lot of work done today, which was totally cool. BoTheWelder and I have formalized our approach for mounting the shell to the frame. that's the current todo item.

I don't find it hard to conceive of at all, if he did none of the work himself.
Paying others to do engine rebuilds, car frame modifications, design and fabrication of the shell mounting frame,
designing and building all the assorted bracketry to hold everything from headlights to IP panels to door and hood hinges,
all the body work (from hours of filling and sanding to mounting windshield and glass), all the re-wiring, etc...WHEW!
Matt, I don't know if you are keeping track of the hours that you and those helping you are putting into your Batmobile,
but I imagine that if you change the cost from "friend rate", volunteer time and DIY time to shop rates of $50 to $100 per hour,
you'll see your project approaching or exceeding $150K, easily.

Of course, in addition to the cost savings, the more of the work you are able to do yourself,
the more rewarding the finished project is for you.

Good luck and keep up the great work,
Mike

Good to see the new video! We always knew you were still working on it, Matt. The shell is looking really sweet now, and the cave looks good too! Can't wait to see more updates!!

LOL, E-wan's tardis still not done? :lol

Very awesome Matt!! I'm following closely, this would be my Holy Grail of all props! I'm very envious!!! Great work

Spent another 6 hours today doing fiberglass work. DO NOT WANT! lol. I have resin stuck to my arms, my hands, and my hair. No fun.

BUT, I got a ton accomplished today. 6 of the 8 mounting points are glassed in, and the final two have been shaped properly so that they will fit. The last two are going towards the rear, in between the fins and the trunk area. it's a very weird compound curve in there, and I have been sanding down the cubes so that they fit decently, with the bottom surface as parallel to the floor as possible. Lots of work!

Also of interest, due to a minor accident today in the shop, the shell ended up being supported by ONE of the blocks. It didn't budge! That says to me that we are on the right track with the current strategy, and that the blocks will indeed hold the shell in place firmly.

How cool... Love the mounting technique! Do you have a picture of one of those bumpers that will sit on the mounting arms? How does it attach to the arm?
