This is ,to my great embarrassment , an abandoned project which I intend to finish. Y'all have seen my Hornet and Stingray builds and I started this bout the same period ,couple years ago. It has set in the graveyard , staring at me , ever since. I really had no idea why I abandoned her cause I was happy with how it was going . It is also one of my oldest friends favorite ships and I intend on gifting this to him upon completion.
ScaleFest is the 31st in Grapevine,TX and it was demanded by my modeling buddies that I attend and bring what few builds I have done in the last few years( stupid life)
I have pulled her out and started work and finally realized why I didn't like it... it's that frikken top fin. I am going to start rebuilding it tomorrow.

Also the color is wrong ,also it is too plain, needs detailing , also a bunch o other stuff.... anyway here are the build pics.

Agreed, the profile of the big fin looks a little off. Only because you called it out...

But apart from that, it looks good to me :)

Hello,
Artists are always their own worst critics.
Until I've tried sculpting one of these using a flat painting as my reference, I think I'll keep myself defeating perfectionism.... to myself.
That said, "I feel you nailed it".:thumbsup

I find it funny I never noticed the death star in the back ground. Or is that Cybertron? Or is it a Borg sphere?

Thanks y'all. Yeah I will take wild liberties with details on my builds and just say it's a different version from the example but if I get something on there that is wrong looking to my mind it will just bug the crap out of me:facepalm So I am off to tear that dang fin off there.:devil

I think your basic problem with this one is that your subconscious is probably telling you its actually a rather weaker design than the other two. The Colin Hay ships are probably the best in that book, which is why you've had such an overwhelmingly positive reaction to them. They are great designs and your build skills can take a huge amount of credit for making them into properly great 3d models. There aren't many others that come close in the book if memory serves. Do what you want to make it right for you I'm sure you can improve on it.

That is a brilliant bit of insight right there CutThumb! It seems the consensus among modelers , sci- fi folk ,and people who just enjoy the books has always been Hornet, Stingray, Shark. It is and always has been my least favorite of the ships. While it is a cool-ish design , frankly I would not be building it if it weren't for it being a long time buddies favorite. I was also able to find appropriate shapes that I could use to bash out the basic frame. If I had had to completely scratch it out it would not even exist. So here is the new design
.Old one

New bit

I have made it long and tall cause I knew I would want to carve on it once it was on there.

Excellent! I had that book YEARS ago and was so suprised to see folks building ships from it. I can't remember the name of the book. I would love to pick a copy up.

Fantastic work! :)

You are very welcome. Also look for Spacewreck and Starliners by the same author and Space Patrol, Worlds at War, and Settlers in Space by Steven Caldwell. They are similar books.
