Terminator 2 Bust. Last Pics Before Moulding

Hi guys,
inspired by Steve & his amazing John Matrix bust of Arnold,I've decided to have a go at one myself. I think I have every Arnold head that is out there including the dissapointing Sideshow Arnold bust ( I thought that was going to be the ultimate sigh...) Anyway what I've done so far is I made & a mould of one of my Arnold heads & then cast it in plasticine.I literaly chopped off the ears & face & have begun to sculpt him.The look I'm going for is the T101 (again I'll post some pics when I sort out photo bucket) I intened to cast the final sculpt again & do a silicon cast with glass eyes & punched in hair... This is the first time I have sculpted a "real" person & it's a HUGE learning curve.I am so lucky to have a good friend of mine helping & guiding me along the way.He is one of the best sculpters I have ever seen & I am learning so much from him...As soon as I get the photo thing sorted I'll start putting them on here.

Tony...

I love the 1:1 scale bust threads!

What version did you mold to get the plasticine version? Would be great to compare the two when finished.

Re: Arnold T101 Sculpt

Yea I will take some pics with the 2 side by side. The bust I used was from an exhibition here in Australia & who ever sculpted it must have been on somethig as it was more of a caricature of Arnold. It looked like him but when it came to resculpting it has turned into a major job. Everything has had to be re-done. I thought I would be clever & save time doing it this way but I have shot myself in the foot. I've spent too much money on silicon & fibreglass making the donor mould to go back now... Don't get me wrong the Donor was good but the dimensions are all over the place. For example. I had to re-sculpt the ears & apart from that, they had to be raised about an inch !!! I think I must have been on something when I decided to use that one...

Re: Arnold T101 Sculpt

So correct if I'm wrong, but you did a recast in clay off of an existing head? Was it a lifecast? I'm not sure what you're claiming to have sculpted here other than retool a lifecast or an existing bust?

I did a recast in plasticine of an Arnold sculpt that someone had done for a display here in Australia hoping to do just as you said "retool" here & there BUT (& I am so kicking myself) the sizes are all over the place.I broke the first rule of patternmaking DO NOT ASSUME ANY DIMENSIONS CHECK so I've had to re-sculpt , re-tool his mouth, jaw, nose, eyes & ears the only thing so far I haven't touched is his neck & the back of his head. I'll be posting before & after pics so you can compare

Re: Arnold T101 Sculpt

well....I think he's basically had to use a cast as a base but from the pics I've seen he's basically redone the whole lot LOL

This is going to be a great version.

Exactly! I really wasn't expecting to have to go this far, & thank god I'm getting help & advice from a good friend who is one of the best sculpters I have ever seen.

Re: Arnold T101 Sculpt

So if its a claypress from someone elses work, I hope you got permission. Sculpting, and doing claypresses are at the opposite ends of designing from scratch. This reminds me of all the myers mask makers who claypress shatner lifecasts and claim "I've sculpted this".

Re: Arnold T101 Sculpt

Really? I never would have thought of doing that. LOL Claypress huh? What a weird hobby we have.

Are you thick or something? You have got no idea of the work that is invoved in this project. This is NOT a recast or Clay ( I never once mentioned clay?) I just thought I could share my journey. You know nothing about me you are judging on something that you are ASSUMING (remember what I said about that in my last post) I am doing. & yes ,I DID get permission to use the donor head. & when you see the finished sculpt you will see that it looks nothing like the donor.Infact with how much I have had to re-sculpt I didn't need permission. Anyone who has worked in the industry knows that if an object has been changed by a certain % you don't need permission. So before you post anything negative again READ the replies very, very carefully. This is the last time I will respond to you're negative uninformed BS & let the others on this forum enjoy something that is hopefully going to be really cool...Moron.
