Stretch fabric is your friend here 
Cotton doesn't have much stretch in it so you'll get the wrinkles and it won't sit nicely in the crevices. Cheap thin spandex or really anything with a decent four-way stretch will do you fine. What you want is as few seams as possible, it's usually done with sewing but you can glue it in just fine so long as you're careful with the placement of edges. Try not to overlap stuff unless the edge is hidden and you'll find it smooths over the curves really nicely.
