Edraven99,
cdyoung, and
Halliwax have been talking to me for a week or so about this saber. I finally broke down, picked a Graflex out of my box of stuff and started working on it. I ended up using a real Graflex, kobold, and ball catch. The rest of the parts are from
obi1kenny.
Painted last week. I was ok with doing this early because I was hoping things would get scratched and need touch ups. I still have some weathering to do. It didn’t get as banged up as I thought.
Test fit of the emitter. The washer sat up too high. I wanted to use the Graflex internals so I ground down the top section of Bakelite. These are before sanding it to sit lower.
I milled the top circles. Everyone leaves these off, but I wanted them on mine.
Test fit. Still in pajamas that day. Love working from home sometimes. Still need to squeeze that d-ring on there tighter.
Final fit. Grips are just stuck on using double sided Scotch tape, so I need to secure those better down the line. I didn’t want to do it yet because I can’t decide if I want to drill the grip holes. I drew some on there just for kicks to see if I liked them. If you go back and look at some of the tour photos, the holes are covered by grips at some point in time. I ended up using one of Wannawanga’s TFA Graflex stamp covers because the prop‘s stamping is obscured by filler/paint.
I do still have to add the ball catch screw. The paint is drying, but that’s easy. Also, the valve is just in there loosely. But it hangs the right way. I also want to track down some bolts without the stamping.
Done? For now. I still need to do some work, like adding a metal plug in place of the inner most Bakelite section and sand/file the valve stem to a rounded D shape. I’m also going to cut some vinyl circles to cover the control box screws.
I put it with my painted ILM stunt for now. Seemed fitting.
Thanks for looking.
