Taun Taun Build

Thanks for all the great comments :) I have to admit I was a bit nervous taking this on as I know it's not going to be 100% screen accurate (I have neither the money or skills to do something that awesome) and I didn't want to disappoint the ESB fans out there.

Hi there,

Is this going to be weather proof? Can't wait to see pictures of you and your Taun Taun in the snow. :)

Perhaps you could add longer YAK hair here and there to cover the seams?

The fur is acrylic so it will hold up ok in light snow, but I don't intend on getting it overly wet as the foam will probably not hold up too well. As for the seams, I haven't finished closing them all off so most of them are still quite visible. I'll have to see how it looks when I'm finished to determine that. Keep in mind that I still have to add a saddle, fake legs, etc so a lot of the torso will be covered. And a few of the lines you see are folds in the fabric :)

Looks good. When I made mine for Celebration 3, I decided to make it animatronic which made moving very hard.

I remember checking yours out when looking for reference pictures. You had Wolftronix do the electronics right? I can't imagine what that must have cost!

You gonna keep her clean..or do the Hoth look and throw some snow and frost on her? Looks great so far!
I've been considering adding some snow to it, we'll have to see how things go.

Yes. Ed did the boards and some of the armatures. I pretty much did everything else. As for cost, he did not charge me even close to what it was worth. He enjoyed the challenge.

I will tell you that I know the next generation taun taun modification. Will cost a bit, but the end result will be worth it....

One of these days.

I don't remember all the details from your build (I'm at work right now) but were you able to actually ride yours and have it walk around? I can see from the picture you posted that it's set up on a wheeled frame. Was that just for when it was stationary or did you need to have them in place to sit on top?

Will it happen to include these?

I looked at the jumping stilts with the original design. They just don't work with the legs. My idea is fairly radical, but makes sense when you see it laid out on paper.

Not the best weekend to try and get work done on the costume (Thanksgiving here in Canada), but I've made some progress on the head. I gave it a quick coat of grey primer and I'm actually happy with it as a base colour. I'm going to highlight with a bit of brown, but overall I think it's going to be kept mostly grey.

For the purists out there, I know it's not screen accurate, but this is my interpretation. I've taken inspiration from RussellSculpts - If I recall, he mentioned that he might do a rider costume someday as well.

Next up - ears, eyes and the smaller horns above the brow. I should have the head done and attached to the body by the end of the week. Then all that is left is to attach the legs to the body and build up my saddle.

Sorry about the bad pics. I promise to post some high res ones of the completed build.
