Re: A lot of people working on TASM but are you also working on your fitness?

I've been owing this thread an update for a while. I'll follow BW's lead and do it in costume since I had to try on the Sonjou print I'm going to be weathering (you gotta follow my other BD thread for that).

I'm actually up in weight from where I was in my last status update I think. But I'm slowly regaining some of the muscle I had lost while trying to thin out. I'm currently at 165 but my goal is to get down to a leaner 155 by comic con. Well, let me rephrase that, my goal is to go to comic con this year and be at 155 when/if I do.

Re: A lot of people working on TASM but are you also working on your fitness?

Question for you guys. I've been hittin the gym hard and recently started doing 4 scoops of muscle milk a day for the past few months. I've noticed good strength gains, but I'm not loosing much body fat (and I don't have a bad diet as well). I may have actually gained some. I was contemplating switching to one scoop a day. Does anyone know if that's preferred when trying to slim up?

sorry I should have answered this way sooner

whats the stats on the muscle milk? if they are high in cal, that would explain your gains, I would switch to a low cal/low fat whey protein shake if your looking to cut and shred. For example looking at the muscle milk cookies and cream 300 cal per serving, 12 grams of fat, 6 gram sat fat, and 32 grams of protein.
the issue with that kind of shake is the fat content is rather high 6 grams of sat fat is already 30% of you daily value

go for something like muscle tech Nitro tech whey powder or even whey gold standard
serving size one scoop. cal 140 sat fat .50 g, protein 30 grams.

Mass builders are good if your looking to gain lots of weight fast, but alot of times you gain fat too, so steer clear if your looking to lose the weight but gain the muscle. What is your daily cal to maintain your current weight?

Id also suggest if the whey does not have added creatine supp, to pick some up in pill form. It will greatly help muscle development.

just for ref whats your diet like?

Re: A lot of people working on TASM but are you also working on your fitness?

Note to josh:
It is impossible to gain muscle mass while losing weight. It actually defies the laws of physics. Typically people do periods of time for mass gaining, and then cutting periods (most of us cut May to November). Only people that can gain mass while cutting is obese people because they have extra fuel to stoke their fire.

Thanks for the tip. As far as diet goes, I usually eat eggs or non fat Greek yogurt for breakfast, protein bar for brunch, veggies, meat, and small carbs for lunch, 2scoop preworkout shake, 2 scoop post workout shake, and then a similar meal from lunch for dinner. I drink about 64 ounces of water a day, maybe a cup of coffee or green tea also. I don't eat sweets during the week, only the weekend. As for workouts, I weight train 5 days a week for about 1hr 15 mins, then 20 mins of cardio, and then I do about an hour of cardio and core on the weekend.

Note using pre existing fat and transforming it into muscle works. You don't have to be obese, just have some extra lbs. I've seen friends go from 190lbs 28 bf% to 160 and defined. We are in no means doing this to bodybuild. Using weight training for muscle definition and weight loss works, I see where your coming from in terms of actual body building, but that's not what his goal was.

Re: A lot of people working on TASM but are you also working on your fitness?

I just got a muscle and fitness magazine last night, and they had a really interesting article thing in it. It's called the "Six pack in Six weeks" plan, and they have you do 4 ab exercises twice a week for six weeks and on weeks 4-6 they have you increase the intensity. I can post all the details of what exercises, sets, and reps if anyone wants to know. I think I'm going to try it....

What's your goals? And what is your current weight ?
If you gained weight but didn't change body fat then it's probably muscle mass. Which in long term would be good once you lost the bf%

Do it and report results, if your bf% is ~7-8% they will show nicely :)

hmm... quick question, can i trust the body fat testers online? Because It says that I'm 12% body fat, but I honestly think I'm more in the 10% percent range.... for anyone who wants to kinda take a guess, here is a picture (yes, I know, It's a terrible picture. And Yes, I also know that I need to be more muscular. But I wanted to cut fat before bulking up, and so now I'm ready to start bulking)

You look at about 10-11% to me , I can see some upper abs showing through, I think at 9% you'll start seeing the definition more. I was the same way when I started my rode I lost all my weight before my bulk. If you do the ab program you'll see abs at 9%. My ab routine is every other day 25 reps each and it only takes me 15 minutes.

Yeah! That sounds like an excellent idea to me! I really don't want to lose any more weight (just because then I would look like a noodle) but i do want to burn away the bad fat and replace it with muscle/bulk. does that make any sense?

Re: A lot of people working on TASM but are you also working on your fitness?

Yeah I was the same way I was hovering at 13 % now I'm down to 10 ish but my weight is up to 140 started at 132, it only took me 2 months but I'm sure that last 2-3 % will be a pain to lose

Re: A lot of people working on TASM but are you also working on your fitness?

Exactly what I was saying josh. Going from 190 to 160 is a 30 lb drop, which puts him down about 13%. Cutting up doesn't have much, if anything to do with bulking up, but rather about the natural musculature of the individual. He may have gotten stronger, but that is more likely due to the increase in neuro control of the muscles. They say 50% is exercise and 50% is diet, but in my experience as a trainer it's more like 70-80% diet, and the diet itself defines how much you gain/lose, and how cut you are.

Maybe, I dont really know... I guess that just depends on how difficult the "6 weeks 6 pack" exercises are..... I just tried them, and they are very hard, so I'm guessing It will be more like 7-8 weeks for me to get to the point I want to get to. Big question for you or anyone else though, should i cut back a bit on the cardio? I usually do it 5-6 days a week high intensity for 20-30 minutes. And yes, that's good for losing weight, but from what I hear, I could lose muscle as well If I'm not eating enough. Should I go to more like 3-4 days of cardio a week for 20-25?

true, but I still say he should toss the nasty muscle milk for something a little cleaner. there are better shakes out there that offer a better nutrition. Heck even my mass shakes are more balanced.
