tapering backer rod

anyone have a tutorial on tapering backer rod, and another guestion is foam filler the same thing as backer rod?

Use a hot cookie sheet to roll and taper you backer rod.

Could you define 'HOT'? At what temp for how long. I tried cutting and failed. I still have about 150, two foot lenghts of backer rod to use. Is this something that you see the results quickly to see if you are doing it right?

For mine, I used a table mounted belt sander..... as suggested here by another forum goer. It worked great. You can control the taper along the whole dread. Then after wards, use a heatgun to close the pours. Careful with that heatgun tho. Don`t get too close.

i just got the ends over the gas hobs on oven about 2" above flame and shaped with an old knife easy peezy
