Heroes of Cosplay Confessions This is what I was talking about earlier.
I was truly excited last week when Yaya said she saw the type of cosplay skits done in Europe and wanted to bring it the US. YES!! I love the theatrics I've heard about over there. It would be amazing to see what kinds of skits with effects, lighting and sound tracks costumers here could put together with their costumes. That would make contests much more of an anticipated show which would be much more fun for the audience and the participants. I had a small part in something like that at a LOTR con years and years ago in Toronto and it was AMAZING! I've always wanted to see more of it.
The Heroes' skits tonight were just as fun as I was hoping they would be last week when they started talking about it.
However, if it's true what this blogger is saying, that the other competitors only knew a day ahead of time and some had to throw something together the day of the skit, while the "Heroes" had much more time (did they make the soundtracks themselves?) it just... sours the whole thing. I wonder what the others could have done if they were given the same opportunity.
Maybe the heroes didn't know the other contestants didn't get the same amount of time? I'll give them all the benefit of the doubt for now... sometimes producers purposefully do such things without informing the cast and then edit the show to make it look otherwise.
For someone who needs a win to, as she says, maintain her reputation, to take such a HUGE advantage to secure it, IMO is a total backfire. Maybe the crown falling off was prophetic?
Seriously, what makes anyone 'costume/cosplay royalty' are those who consistently have fun making great costumes while being fair and honest, supportive to others in the hobby.
Then again all the needing to win could just be how they are playing Yaya for this show... I certainly hope so because the best thing she could do is to use her pull, not to fix contests for reality shows that hurt other costumers, but to bring the entire hobby to new and exciting levels with this type of competition becoming more prevalent in our country.
Also, I could be naive, but I really don't think there would be any shame in coming out of retirement from contests, playing fair and just happening not to win, so long as you still made something impressive that is your signature style and put on a good show - which they all totally did.
