Sword Art Online II - Kirito's "Photon Sword"

I do like yours so far but IMHO, it's too long.
10 inches (minus the d-ring) sounds about right.
But that's just based upon the screen caps I posted on page 1
assuming Kirito's hand is 3 inches wide wen he first holds it.
(rough estimate of course) But I do like the all-metal version too,

Yup led strip :) just gotta buy the foam diffusser and i'll be set...my blade in Total has probably cost me $30 and i have enough leds left for a second blade

Also for anyone who is interested in purchasing a full finished sword or just a kit theres an interest thread in the junkyard :)

yea thats how I measured the Kagameitsu also, based on how many Kirito hands it takes to cover its body and that gave me a rough length. i then based his hand being about the same as my hand at 4 inches wide when gripped so the 10 inches is great. In case any of you were wondering about the cost of mine, since its an aluminum body I have access to its about 1$ worth of aluminum. the LED is 18$, battery 10, and sound board (if they are ever instock again 65$) and the blade 30$. Basically lightsabers are easy to make just spendy. Ohh the price we pay for our hobbies.

let me throw in my version then.

Just finished a filling primer. and have a nice handle that slips in the 2 hole at the top. What do you guys think>?
Thinking about doing some casts as well.

Nice! Can't wait to see it completed! Glad it came out looking very accurate... :)

I see. Yeah, I just guessed based on my own hand, too. So 10 inches sounds right. (IMHO)
Yes that's the price we pay for our hobbies, LOL.

Looks nice so far. 3-D printed too? Where's the slide switch at? I don't see it. (yet) It should be just below where the blade comes out at the top. (last pic on the right)

Well its been a few days so I figured I would update you on my Aluminum Photon Sword. Tonight I spent the bulk of my time on the home made D-ring carbine.

After that was done I made ring holder (from steel so it holds up better). Once the rest of this is all done I will press it into place completing it. But I still have a ways to go. Started the Blade plug to, that will the emitter end you see here.

And heres how it looks assembled.
*note this is a few days ago so I still have the blunt back end on it and was still figuring out the front and switch.

So far this thing is just under 10 inches so its a vast improvement over the 11.5 I had a week ago. I have an idea for the switch to and first tests were good but showed me the flaws so tiny tweaking is coming up. Sadly im also still waiting on the sound board and LED i was planning on using. so with that said I have been considering using an older sound board with an aux button, but id have to disrupt the body and place a tactile micro switch ......somewhere easily pressed and not a visual blemish.

Im actually torn between choices of style and functionality. choice 1 like the show a slide on/off switch. It looks good but the ability to pack a sliding switch in a 4 mm area leaves me with about 1mm of aluminum as a body. so Very thin and weak. Choice 2 make it a simple push button that looks like a slide switch, quick and easy and way more structurally sound. If i go witht he slide switch and anything messes up. Ill have to remake 3 of the major parts putting me back a few days. Choices....

Does anybody have any screenshot of Kirito clipping it I to his belt from the most recent episode? It happened when he was in the cave

Much better. What abut the black areas? Foam or paint?
Love it - very shiny :D

Actually at that time the black was anodized aluminum i had laying around. But since the back end also has to be the same black to match the Photon Sword I attempted to paint it and bake the paint in. However that didn't work since even the tiny thickness of paint prevented my parts from going back together I decided to sandblast the entire thing to bare again and have decided to build a small anodizing set up in the basement so I can make it as color detailed and matching as possible.
Right now its just sitting almost fully assembled waiting on me to decide what electronics package to put in it and finish it off. The home anodizing should be ready for tests in like a week or 2.

By the way love all the progress!!!! My mark 2 is coming soon

I'd like to see that. Plus how much for a fully-functional one?
Like the one you're selling in the Junkyard? For me, that is? :D

If my original screen-caps did play a part in the creation of your props, that's great,
However, a credit would be appreciated in the photos or replies if my uploaded photos were used.
Especially if you're selling any. I don't mind if you do, but some credit would be appreciated.
You don't have to and I don't want to sound like a jerk though.

It's cool. I was only making a point.
What about the other sites I've seen it on?
Have you sold any on there?
Just curious, that's all I guess.

So here is my mk 2 photon sqord hilt more accurate and with a functioning switch given i had to make changes to the switch design from the show so it would be functional
