Sweeney Todd: Straight Razors *Big pic*

Hello,
I'm suprised that this has barely been mentioned but there's a prop that I need some help with either finding/buying/making, as you can guess from the title, it's the straight razors from the new movie Sweeney Todd.
What's troubling me is the blade of the razor, I know that the handle could be made over a normal straight razor handle.
I've done some research and I have found similar handles but the blade shape is different from the norm. The whole prop was fabricated for the movie but I don't know if this was an actual design or not. If not, any ideas on how to make it?
Here's some refs

Thank you

Toby is making the razors?! :eek I knew he made the costume but didn't know about the blades, thanks very much I'll send him a message.

Very nice! I can't wait to see more!
Technical questions: How does it work? (Like, is the casting a shell that goes over a normal handle? static blade? moveable?) Sorry for all the questions :lol

No problem.
It's two resin side-plates (with the sculpting) that will be sandwitched over two like-shaped pieces of aluminum, which enclose the blade. (another piece of sheet aluminum, cut to shape.)
When the sides are painted, I'll Screw together the top, and secure the two pieces together with stratigically placed supports. (so it doesnt buckle in anywhere.)
Thats the plan, anyway!

wow that's awesome very complex! how many are you making? just one? or the crazy 7 in a box lol :lol

You guys should contact Bill Ellis, he makes custom razors and is great at restoration. He could probably track down a similar blade. If you want a functional one. And I'd bet he could do work on the scales.

Alright, here's an update on my progress.
The finished razor on the right of this picture was painted/aged with rub-n-buff, to less than stellar results,
the panels on the left were done with silver spray and a black wash, much better results. (I'll probably end up redoing the right one; but I have to finish these by the flick this weekend!)

NICE! Call ya with a Rub-N-Buff tip (for what it's worth) in a bit.

Hey there, great looking razor! Would you please post pics of the pieces that make up the blade? The three pieces of aluminum? And how did you decide what to sculpt on the handles...

The blades on the first two I actually cheated on; I had to get them done by the opening of the movie, so I just cut the shape out of one piece of sheet metal, then masked off the lower part and clear coated it, to get that line.
The sculpts were done by looking at the reference pics I had available at the time; much better reference is out now.

Here's what I've got so far... The blade and handles are cut styrene and then I'm sculpting the handles in oil clay. I've got one side about 90% done then I'll mold everything so that I can make all six. On to the pics.

The blade and blade "housing" (the blade itself is slightly off and will be redone)

Possibly. I would really love to it's just a matter of time and materials. I'm at home right now and have access to what I need (my dad owns an FX shop) but within two weeks I'll be going back to school in NY. There's a supply place (The Alcone Co.) within an hour of the school so I should be able to get some resin and such there. If I offer them it'll probably be as kits. I'll post when they're finished and see whose interested.

not bad but from the tiny ref pic I see on your desk, if I were you, I'd try doing a little more to her hair, and maybe lower the prow and round the eyes a bit. She looks too happy and alive to me, Although I could be wrong.
