I have recently gotten my hands on the 1/4 vinyl screamin boba fett model and was wondering if anyone here could give some pointers on painting it, (what colors to use, what is the best brand of paint to use, color guide, etc) as this is my first vinyl model I have ever done and I want it to be as actuate as possible.

Thank you in advance for any helpful advice you can give this noob modeler. It's much appreciated.

If I recall, that's a vinyl kit
so you'll want to use acrylics, and a good primer

clean the hell out of it, to avoid orange peel and the paint peeling off when you mask

Tamiya is probably your best bet

don't forget to unwarp it with heat before you start building, and fill the legs with hydrocal or plaster to keep it from warping under the weight as it gets older

hopefully this will help

I have this kit, still in the box.

Back in the day, I completed the stormtrooper, Vader, and Chewie. Also have Threepio, in a box.

Fun kits. I support what was said above.

When I would build the screamin kits in addition to plaster in the legs, I would stuff wadded up newspaper in the body just to help it keep its shape over time.

Ok got the bottom half filled with plaster and sitting now til it cures.

Anyone know of a good place to find a paint guide for boba?

Been re watching Empire and Jedi to get some ideas :)

Will do :)

Btw anyone have any suggestion on how to make the dent in his helmet? Not really ever done that with vinyl before and don't want to mess it up.

Thanks,
Callista

I would cut it and putty it, because you can control it

you can use heat, but you may wind up warping the part

Not sure about a guide, per se... But you know the green is different between ESB and ROTJ, right? ESB seems to have a bit more blue in it, I think.

Not sure that the kit itself specifically represents either movie. In fact, isn't the gun he holds in the kit the pre-production gun made from camera parts?

BTW did you build that NX-01? Would like to see more of it.

The Return of the Jedi version of Boba is my favorite. The Empire Strikes Back Boba has too much green in it for my taste, but if you want to be accurate I agree you need to visit thedentedhelmet.com for some info. I have never seen your model, so I could be more specific if you posted a few pics so I could ID it to it's respective movie. :) I've been a Fett-fan for a long time, now. :)

PS- lovin' that 1:350 scale NX-01! I am gonna snag one for myself in about a month. I got one when they first came out, from SUNCOAST... They made a mistake on the price and I walked away with it for 25bucks! :) Then my daughter dropped it down a flight of stairs... :(

I was hoping there was a paint guide in the fact that this green is a good match to his, but no worries I will hopefully be hitting up a hobby store here soon and stocking up on some paints :)

Yes I did build that NX-01 and was extremely proud of it so I did a set with it. I am a BIG sci-fi geek so I love SW and ST. Weird, aren't I?

I agree with you Cadeus on the Jedi version plus there are more shots of Boba in it that I can work from so I will most likely be going that way with him.

The Screamin Boba Fett kit is what we at TDH like to call the Pre-production 2 version(PP2) of his costume. It was the most widely used in publicity shots and is very well documented although it never appeared in any of the movies. There is a few threads dealing with the PP2 on TDH and I'll try and grab a few links for you in a bit so you can get an idea of the colors needed if you go that route.

However it is your model so you can paint it however you see fit :).

Here is the link to the PP2 section of the gallery.

You know which version was cool, too, was the one you see in an interview with Bobba Fett before ESB came out. They hadn't decided on a paint scheme, yet, so he was white... like a storm-trooper on LSD! Very cool... I could't find it on youtube. sorry
