Survivor Redemption Island

Anyone watching this? Russell and Boston Rob are both on it again...

It's nice to see that some people seem to be learning about what Russell is up to. :D

I don't want to spoil it for people who have it on DVR so...

Seeing him blind sided was AMAZING... I didn't expect it at all. (y)thumbsup

I was actually really disappointed. Mirax has got me watching Survivor (as well as American Idol) for the past 3 years. Last night's Survivor really came down to the last vote and I was sad that it went the way it did.

Not as much as you seem to see it. I know you don't care for Russell, but I think he is an excellent player... during the game but he still hasn't won a game... and I think we have already had that debate. As an individual in real life, I wouldn't care for him. As a player of Survivor, I think he is the best and most entertaining we will ever see. The question becomes, how many times can you do the exact same thing before people catch on to you and use your lack of diversity in strategy against you?

I wouldn't call yesterday's a blindside. The numbers won out and the stronger alliance got their way. They were hoping for a crack in the alliance and thought they had it. If it went the way Russell wanted, then it would have been a blindside.

I hated the idea of throwing the match. I hated it back in China when Phi-Gi(sp?) did it to get rid of James and that surfer guy, even though they didn't have numbers. Russell is right that throwing it this early is a mistake. It wouldn't surprise me if Rob and co. keep the momentum.

It'll be interesting to see how Redemption Island works out. Maybe the eventual winner gets back at the merge? Maybe they win a certain amount of competitions before being allowed back (isn't that how real gladiators were?)

I think he's an excellent player too - he's very good at the troll way of playing. But I disagree that he's the most entertaining that 'we' will ever see - maybe YOU will ever see, but some of us just don't enjoy watching that way of playing... it's personal taste.

Minder, you make a good point about the blindside - it was so obvious that they threw the challenge, though I mind less that they did it than I do that they lied about it.

It was a risk they decided was worth it to get the dark gloomy cloud out of their tribe. It might not be worth it in the end, but at least fess up to it.

Also - your sig says spoiler tags are fun - but you didn't use them and just blurted out who got voted out! haha! But I wasn't being all that careful either... and it could have been figured out. It was just funny for me to click on your sig expecting to see something even more revealing.

I guess people should know better than to even enter a thread like this if they don't want spoilers...

then my whole post would be in spoiler tags, lol.

I'm kinda in the boat that if you don't want to be spoiled and it's already out, then stay out of the thread. Why are people going into a thread about some blockbuster movie days after it was released and then going off about spoilers.

And it's not just Russell they have to worry about. It's two others. That's the thing with Survivor, chemistry helps, but when you throw challenges, it can back fire bad. They never even thought of how strong the alliances are in Rob's team. If they are a full team with a full alliance, then what's left of Russell's team is DOA. I just can't see this ending good when you throw a challenge.

I find it interesting that they have witnesses for the redemption island challenge. I would think it would make for better tv if the contestants had no clue who is still there.

I don't know - the quiet one might not be difficult and the big mouth is likely just that, a big mouth. If she was smart and not just confident in Russell's shadow, she would have played it cooler than she did. As it stands, she's in a really seriously bad spot and talking about 'storm's that are coming. Made me :lol.

Yeah! That was unexpected. It was sort of good tv to have them come back and lie about what happened. Jeff sort of nudged them that way, though with his, 'what you share about what you saw is up to you."

We are just never going to agree on Russell. He (generally) just gets the job done and in realizing it is a game without many rules, he doesn't try to take a real world approach to it. While his strategy isn't a winning one (obviously) it sure takes him far and he pretty much ran the last two seasons like no one I have ever seen before. I can't help but have some level of admiration for someone who can simply impose his will with no violence and no physical intimidation.

that's why I love him :thumbsup
He does seem a little soft this season though. So maybe he was trying a different approach. We'll see what happens when/if he returns to the game

:lol That's why I didn't read this thread until today. Watched it last night on the DVR.

Overall I am liking the changes they made this season. I am a Russell fan and a Boston Rob fan, so having them both on at the same time has been great.

I've been a little surprised that Russell stuck to using the same game plan as his last two apperances. These other contestants know his MO, so he should have went a different way.

Rob's ability to read people and control a situation amazes me. He's been one of my favorites since his first season.

Agreed. He has some psychological perception that is beyond anything I've seen from anyone on the show. I find him much more interesting and his skills more admirable than the troll. :cool

You really think they are so different? I tend to not care for Rob's personality as much, but he and Russell both play very similar games, and I certainly respect Rob's ability to maneuver and get his way. What do you feel sets Rob apart from Russell that earns Rob your respect?

For who I like, it's probably just a personality thing... and be sure, I'm not saying my opinion is objective or even going to be convincing to anyone else, it's just the way I feel about the two of them.

What they are willing to do and how they view themselves is not that different, I totally admit that - both are cut throat and see themselves as superior to others.

BUT when I am listening to them speak about their plans and about the other people on their team or against them, and how they speak to others even just the look in their eyes, Rob's tone and general style is so much less abrasive to me and less trollish than Russell.

As for the admiration thing, I should try to be a bit more objective, so I guess it's because I really do think Rob is much better at reading individual people and catering his game to them specifically.

For instance, the way Rob went after crazy pink panties was EXACTLY right... and he totally gets that the cupidoll girl is going to be resentful for his bumping out Fabio 2.0. And that he was going to have to work extra hard to win her back and might not be able to. He knew right away who the real players were as well from very early on and how to deal with them.

Russell pretty much uses the same method on everyone, he is who he is and either you're on board or you're not. And as you've admitted, even though people have seen this method already - he's STILL not altering his methods to cater to the people he has on his team right now.

So working through all that, the bottom line of Rob over Russell for me, is that Rob's method is individual reading and catering where as Russell just is Russell. And I don't like Russell. :lol

:lol It's bizarre that she was practically crying and she's known him for like four days at that point!

I think if any of these people were smart they would have voted Russel and Rob out first. Next is the Federal Agent dork. That guy is just odd. Not to mention I wouldn't trust anyone who has to preface his sentence's with letting you know his occupation. :rolleyes

I'd agree with you completely if I didn't think Rob was figuring out how to play him. Right now he's a bigger asset to Rob that cupi because she sees Rob isn't trust worthy. I think the guy is wacked, but that he'll be loyal to someone to the end if he believes that person is loyal to him. The older women didn't play him well enough and put doubt into his mind.

I agree that Rob's team should vote him out early as well, especially after he just proved any one of them on his team is at risk! We'll see if they wake up to that or continue to believe they need him to bring them to the merge.
