Supernatural Crossroads Box

Hey all, I had been posting in the Supernatural props thread but felt I had started a discussion that was bringing the thread off topic as I haven't made the prop yet.

Since I can't afford the grail props being offered in the JY (Angel/Demon Knives, John's Journal) I thought I'd shoot for something I could budget build...the crossroads box.

From what I could gather by searching online the boxes contents are 1) A photo of the person wanting to make the deal 2) Black cat's bone 3) Graveyard dirt.

I read that "Yarrow" is included but didn't see it in the images I could find. Apparently that's a flower of some sort that looks like Baby's Breath.

For accuracy, does anyone know what type of box is used? Worst case I could find an old tin lunchbox and weather the crap out of it since that's what it looks like to me.

The bottle that the Graveyard dirt is in looks like a basic "movie theater" size liquor bottle with a cork to me.

The bones I'm unsure of, maybe use some armature wire and sculpt some up?

Any tips or ideas are greatly appreciated, I want to knock out two of these soon and could use any screen caps or references anyone has.

Thanks! Looking forward to what will hopefully be an affordable prop!

If you aren't picky about the bones, you can use a chicken bone as a start for the black cat bone.

I think one of the other things you have to put in there is a license or picture of yourself.

Guess it depends on what you want the bone to be. I think one of the hex boxes a few seasons ago had a black cat bone that was a cat skull.

Best bet is going to be an old lunchbox for the box. Hit the local thrift shops or ebay and you can find em.

Can't wait to see the pics!

I had thought about using chicken bones too, we'll see what I can come up with.

I would really like to find a similar box to the one pictured but I think an old tin/aluminum lunchbox will work too. The thing about the box is that to me it looks smaller than most lunchboxes and I don't believe it has a handle like most lunchboxes either.

I've been thinking about this, and hexbags, too. I think I'll re-watch those episodes today in HD and see what I can see.
I'd probably be looking on eBay/Etsy for old vintage metal lunchboxes or hinged metal boxes generally. I'm with you that it's definitely smaller than a lunchbox would be now, I don't know what other things people would need an old tin for. Cards, cigars?

I probably should have posted it here, instead of the other Supernatural thread.

Everything that goes into a Crossroads Box, the boxes they use, HD screencaps of it all:

Wow! Thanks for all of that! Such a great amount of knowledge from those caps! You're the man/woman!

I'm not totally concerned with screen accuracy for this first go, I just want to make a box for myself and my wife for display atm.

But again, great finds on the boxes. I actually was eyeballing a tin Acid Cigars box at the local tobacco shop when I was buying my E-cig refills today that looks similar to the first box from Crossroads Blues. It was locked in the humidor though so I couldn't tell if the top was hinged.

I picked up some bottles at the local package store, Jack daniels was the closest they had. But looking at your new caps I can see the necks are too short but basic shape is close.

Next I dug up this beauty for the photo,

Yes, that's my original drivers license lol.

So I have some of what I need, on to the box search!

Oh and I need to wait for the ground to thaw so I can get my dirt as everything is still under about a foot of snow.

Double posting FTW!

Question, would it be unacceptable to get my dirt from a real graveyard? Like from the grounds, not someones actual grave...

It looks like it's about the size of an old cracker tin.

Good work!

I think the fun thing about crossroads boxes is that you could make your own, so it wouldn't have to be screen accurate - just in the same vein.
I had a lot of fun! I am trying to track down that Oriental Mixture tin like a madwoman. I've found 4 places that might-have-sort-of-had-one-but-maybe-not-anymore and it's driving me crazy!

I love your license, it looks... rustic :p

If it's not from an actual grave, I think that's okay. Just... probably don't let anyone see you do it.
I'm trying to recreate Dean's box, and I'm not going to use a *real* cat skull, because ew, and I'm just going to use dirt from whatever is in the garden.

Does anyone have any ideas on the silver coins?

Also, if it helps, I estimate the width of the original crossroads box (George Darrow's) at about 7.5", so look for a 7.5"ish tobacco tin and scratch the hell out of it? There are literally thousands of them on eBay, many cool old interesting looking ones, and for very cheaps.
I get the size estimate by knowing that the tin Dean uses, the Oriental Mixture tin, is 6.5" wide from product information, so even though the original tin is unidentifiable due to the aforementioned scratched-to-hell-ness, you can see the same bottle of graveyard dirt fits in the original box with about an inch more room than it has in Dean's smaller tin. Sorta.

Lol that license has been through hell, so it's fitting I think lol. Plus it's naturally weathered!

Yeah, actual grave would be creepy and insulting but I think from the grounds are fine. We have a few abndoned old ones in the area so that should work.

I won't be using real cat bones by any means, unless a taxidermist happens to offer lol. I think I'll just save a rib cage or some leg bones from the next small chicken I cook.

As for the pieces of silver, I have some old coins around from port calls in Curacao and Dominican Republic that should work well.
