Superman Lives Pre-Production Photos

I dunno; I see where they were going: the same place they went with Green Lantern. Dude's an alien; he shouldn't be dressed like a 1920's circus performer. I kind of like those last couple shots when they were honing in on it.

On the other hand, look what happened when they redesigned the five dollar bill: I still can't get the damn machine at the car wash to read the new fives and I have to get a tire-seal spray with the ten-dollar wash I don't need! Woe is me! :lol

:eek
They could've made a really cool sci-fi or superhero movie with that work, but that is NOT Superman.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Returns suit mostly because of the cut and the colors, but compared to what's in the link...it ROCKS!

The moment I saw Nicholas Cage's lifecast I knew I was in for a good laugh.

Seriously, WTF?

There's just two kinds of bad going on here. I'm not saying I'm a fan of this mess - but there's an old saying "things could be worse" - and Returns proved that.
Chalk Lives up to the fact that Burton was simply the wrong guy - but so was Singer. The costume in the pic at least fit into the story of the fortress preserving Kal El (as we were to find out was it's job on all things Kryptonian) Where the screenplay went wrong in direction of character - Returns topped it with the stalker, dead beat dad, hinge the whole story on the fact that Superman left to see if there were any survivors where Krypton once was - They had to dance around him stating this to Lois because if she had stayed mad at him for it, no one would like her character. Superman being told - "the world doesn't need you" is just plain dumb - but having Superman killed and the world then finding out just how much Superman did for them is a worthy notion.

This suit was not going to be worn all the way through the movie - only when he comes back. He adds stuff to it to channel the power of the fortress through the suit to fight Doomsday a 2nd time - the suit gets busted up, Superman fights Doomsday with only his wits - then gets his powers back and wipes the floor with the beast. I coulda been down with that

Apologies to the RPF for providing JetBeetle with yet another place to inform us how much he hates Superman Returns. Dude, we get it. Please move along.

SO how about that costume?

Dude, you started the post with your opinion - am I not supposed to post my own? i didn't know it bothered you -

And just to let you know - I'm not the only one who hated the movie. If you post something about it - I'm going to comment - so you move on and expect it.

The difference here is that the pictures of the Superman Lives stuff are new to the internet. Your opinions about Superman Returns are three years old. Perhaps you should consider being the one to move on, sir :p

My opinion hasn't changed and seeing how a comparison of quality was drawn by you I felt I could do the the same. As I said - i had no idea it bothered you so much, but until the new Superman movie comes out and gives me something new to complain about I have to stick with Returns being bad. Don't blame me for having three year old opinions - blame Hollywood for being slow.

As cheesy as this looks, I'd like to actually see a video of the completed suit out of curiosity's sake :lol

There is video footage out there. I've seen it. it's not pretty!! There's a few BRIEF flashes of it on one of those steve johnson videos that are floating around youtube. He started a little behind the scenes series a while back, dunno if it is still running, but there were a few shots of the fiber optics in action.

I'm a huge Superman fan, and loved Superman Returns, and after seeing these pics I am endlessly fascinated with this suit! Yes, the movie would have been way out there and most likely bad, but I like going back to watch campy and crappy 90's movies, it's like watching the original supergirl.

I'm seriously thinking about starting work on one or these suits, it seems to me like a fasinating original concept that should have been, and if you can find that footage Matt I would kill to see it!

It is just the Electric Superman (most folks call it "Superman Blue")that has been in the comics a few times brought into the real world - seen in the comics first in 1963, then in a more recent storyline where he had the costume for about 6 months in 1998, not really a new design.
I suspect after death he is reborn with all new electric based powers like in the comics. Wasn't a huge fan of that storyline but at that point in the comics it was interesting to see Sups struggle with learning new powers - of course he always goes back to the classic look in the end of any change. Wasn't a fan of Returns but did not think this would have been good either.

Wow, I hadn't seen these photos before. That... is a bad costume.

It's sort of.. the only thing I can think of is hypercolor tshirts and foil printed comic books.

The non lit up non chrome unpimped version of the costume at least looks kinda cool (there's an arm shot in there). Sort of guyverish. I think it would be a good costume BASE design if someone wanted to try and squeeze Cyborg Superman into a movie, but man oh man that is... holy crap that's bad.

I already kinda dislike Burton for his design ideas. This is almost Schumaker bad, and that's like comparing a grenade to a nuke of suck.

It seems like every movie that comes out has to play "Pimp my hero!" and somehow just.. overemphasize the costume somehow. This is just like... mind bogglingly shiny and bright and light up. Returns had the S pattern ALL over the suit. Here's hoping the new movie just has it back to basics. The guy is bulletproof. He can wear spandex and not care. He doesn't need leather and armor plating, he damned sure doesn't need chrome plating.

Wow... this is like the car crash on the interstate version of a thread. I keep coming back and looking at the photos again and again going "Wow... just... damn that sucked..."

Thanks for sharing!
Chris

Superman wasn't reborn with all electrical based powers. He came back his relatively normal self and they added that electrical garbage later on.

This suit looks cool, but not for Superman.
