Not going to lie. Seeing him smile... He's starting to grow on me a bit.
I'm not going to judge too much before seeing the actual movie. But the costume looks like it was fit for someone larger. It looks so ill fitting and awkward. The floppy boot shafts, right up to the bizarre collar. All the little lines and padded parts of the costume are odd looking as well, but that's just the norm with everything costume now. Add as much extra detail as they can. I'm actually a little surprised there are tiny little "S"s embossed into the entirety of the costume.

I have no recollection of it, but is this a version from any of the comics?

That all said, it's certainly not what will determine if it's a good film or not. It's just a small part that I'm only remarking on because it's currently being commented on here.

I wonder if they just made to top too big, like they started making the suit while Corenswet started working out, anticipating him getting a lot bigger than he did, and/or decided not to use more padding underneath. Or maybe they took Corenswet's measurements before he started working out for the role and he had shed some excess body fat, especially around his midsection.

I just don't understand why the pants are tight fitting but the top is loose, and the boots gap while walking. Take this with a huge grain of salt, but I saw a reader comment on darkhorizons.com that said they had inside knowledge that the suit was made for Cavill, and was too late to make a new suit for Corenswet. I don't know if I buy that, considering Corenswet is 3-4 inches taller than Cavill, so I doubt the sleeves in particular would fit. Even if it were true, I'd think the costumers could've done a lot more to alter the suit to a new person, but who knows.

I watched a video that went over some of the footage of the scenes that were shot in public view. I don't want to give anything away but one piece of footage of a scene seemed to suggest a certain character makes an appearance which, if it ends up being the case, Gunn is very much leaning into the campy side of the comics. Not saying that's a good or a bad thing. Just an observation.

Well I am all for some fun and brightness. I used to love darker stories along with fun and bright stories, but now that is all we have gotten for years. So I am ready for some serious positive, colorful fun.

Even Batman has gotten too dark. The Batman. Please (n) Minus the amazing, tied for second place best Batmobile ever. Even that scene was soooo dark you had trouble seeing it. Plus Batman caused the deaths of God knows how many innocent people just to question and the release the Penguin.

That is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever read. To even suggest that his costume was made for someone else or that it was made in anticipation of the actor putting on more muscle mass is frankly, moronic. Look, this is a major studio working with a legendary character and they are spending millions of dollars on this film. Does anyone really think they “didn’t have time” to alter his costume? Please. They have an army of tailors and costumers on standby to fix any costuming issues on the spot not to mention they have several costumes for the actor. Does anyone really think this design was not intentional? Why, I don’t know.

Hey, I was just offering a hypothesis, no need for insults. Saying my comment is "moronic" doesn't help your argument. You can disagree without being insulting.

And I don't think it's "ridiculous," though I admit it's not too likely. Even though these productions have huge budgets, there's often time constraints. They have to start creating costumes pretty early, and actors' bodies can change from the time they were originally measured to the time they have their first fitting. Actors have definitely shown up out of shape before, causing problems with costuming. As you said, they have a lot of experienced costumers on hand, so one would expect any alterations would be handled prior to filming. But this costume appears rubbery, so I just think it's possible it may not have been as easy to fit or alter as conventional fabric. Maybe you're right, and the top is intentionally supposed to look baggy, especially around the midsection, but it just seems like an odd choice if true.

And as an example of a costume being made for a different actor, Robocop 3 famously hired an actor that would fit the Robocop costume that was made for Peter Weller. Weller dropped out, so they got someone that had similar physical proportions so that they didn't have to create a new suit, and that movie had a $22 million budget, which was $9 million more than the original Robocop and only $3 million less than Robocop 2.

Dude, calm down. I love you. Always have, but this entire thread has been very friendly. No need for insults man.

My apologies to anyone who might have felt insulted by my post. I see now how it might of come off as insulting. The main point I was trying to make is we all know how these films work.

I don't know that we can truly judge the look of the fit given that adjusting "bagginess" is something that can be done in post production now. It could look like this, or they could spend $$$ on CGI.

Maybe. That is certainly true. Although maybe they just decided to skip the skin tight look.

I just hope it's a decent story, and not the convoluted mess recent versions have been.

Kidding aside, I understand using CGI to enhance costumes, like CGI capes, lighting effects or trying to fix something like the Emperor's hood in ROTJ (though they didn't originally have computers for that and used tradition masking, hence the Emperor's "slugs" as they're often called). But an ill-fitting costume seems easier and cheaper to fix via alterations to the costume itself and NOT need the extra cost and time needed to fix with CG.

So I'm left assuming these options:
1. The costume was always meant to look this way and will look this way on screen
2. The costume was always meant to look this way, but was also planned to be "fixed" or "enhanced" in post production
3. The costume wasn't meant to look this way, but they couldn't fix it for whatever reason, so it will either look this way on screen or it will be "fixed" in post
