Re: Sub Zero build

it would also be helpful if someone could tell me how/where to get dry ice. i plan on putting a compartment in the mask for some.

Re: Sub Zero build

Dry ice is sold at some super markets. Here in LA, we have places that just sell Dry Ice. Make sure the compartments are thick enough to keep the dry ice from contact against your skin, it can cause serious damage.

Re: Sub Zero build

I know Vagabond made a great Pep of this exact mask and would be a great head start. I made the pep myself and turned out pretty well. I know he did a run of raw castings of the mask for far less then for the one you found but I think he sold them all.

Re: Sub Zero build

Im currently working on MK9 Scorpion and Noob Saibot. The pep files are definitely good for the masks if they aren't too organic. Scorpion's I am going to sculpt but I've already seen Sub-Zero's done and it looks good. That would be a great cheap way to do it. I am a diehard fan of MK haha

Re: Sub Zero build

Aren't some MK9 sub zero masks available on eBay? I seem to recall seeing some that looked very, very similar.

Re: Sub Zero build

I only have 1 Casting left Fleefromme, sent you a PM if you want it. And yes I was the person selling them on eBay but not any longer. There's another person that sells them on eBay but they come from the UK and a little more costly I think.

Re: Sub Zero build

you should be able to run the mini fog machine from a belt, with a tube running up to the mask possibly......

I wouldn't risk the dry ice effect.

Re: Sub Zero build

Dry Ice in the mask, just for some fancy white smoke?

Think twice about it, while it sounds good, this is your problem:

First it freezes the moisture on and near the surface of your skin, causing your skin to 'stick' to the dry ice. It then freezes the cells on the outer layers of skin, bursting their cell walls and killing the cells. it keeps penetrating deeper until it reaches a depth where the blood supply can provide enough heat to supply what is being conducted away. The direct result is frostbite. The eventual result, if left untreated, is usually gangrene. If the gangrenous tissue is cut away, sometimes requiring amputation of the limb, you survive. Otherwise the normal result is death from gangrene.

I would route a mini fog machine from your belt, up the back of your cloak through the hood and into the mask with surgical tubing. You can buy it at most hardware stores.

Why risk a health issue over what could be a lame effect to begin with.

No intent on being a jerk, Ive messed around my fair share with dry ice and seen some bad stuff.

2nd. Plus the fog will last longer unlike having to replace the dry ice every time it runs out. Plus I can see the ice making it hard to breathe

that sounds like its a more efficient approach. how small do fog machines get?

at cgclone
thank you for your concern and information. i will no longer be attempting to use dry ice for this build. BUT FOR YOUR INFORMATION THE EFFECT WILL LOOK AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

what kind of clay should i use for the sculpt?

Re: Sub Zero build

I just received Vagabond's mask kit in the mail today, and would agree it's an affordable headstart on your costume. I got the 'B' grade pulls, so some work is required, but that's the way I like it. :). Look forward to seeing your progress. Thinking about a full suit myself.
