Stupid Question about Die Cast Metal

I have a part made of Cast metal and of course it is a bit dull. I was thinking about polishing it to get rid of the dullness, but I was unsure if that would work.

Anybody know if it is possible?

You can polish it, but this might reveal porosity or other flaws in the metal. The more you polish something the more tiny imperfections can become obvious.

Hand polishing is cool but refrain from buffing till you know exactly what sort of metal it is.

you could very easily melt your part by buffing with a machine
