Studio Scale stop-mo TESB AT-ST

Hello guys,

I finally thought it was time to work on this one. It took me some times, probably the lack of motivation to find the money (and the fact I dont like the design of the TESB AT-ST) to buy the first run of armature, Ive just collected some of the kits needed for her for the last 2 years (unfortunatly I used most of the parts on other projects, so I have to buy new ones ! :lol).

Ive started by the head for several reasons :

- this way I can delay the time when Ill have to clean up the armature :lol
- this is about my 6th AT-ST heads (tesb, roth gomo and pyro) so I know I can build one fast !
- that's the only thing to scratch in this model, and the most time consuming thing to do (besides the paintjob and hunting/collecting the kits)
- I have most of the parts for the head, which is not the case for the chassis and legs.

I would like to thank Jason for the ref pics of the original prop which was the beginning of all that ! Lee for his incredible finds, as well as Allan also for his stunning finds and for the first armature drawings. Then Quincy, for the efforts he put on this V2 armature. He spent so much times and the results are here. Besides some minor flaws (which will be corrected) on some armature, this one is way better in many way. The only bad thing will be to clean up all the edges of the parts !

Well now, some pics of the head I built today, mounted on the armature. I took the pics of my ROTJ gomo AT-ST to get an idea of the size of each one, and to see how different the proportions are ! They are so close and so far in the same time ! Anyway it will be a cool thing to have both of them in display together :

In a side note, I will not put the care I use to put on this model, so Im sorry in advance if she doesnt look perfect to you and maybe a bit crude...
I will replicate the prop, I mean only on hero side.

Thanks for looking :)

Wooo, thats a great set of pics with the two brothers together bro.
I know she's not your fave, but build her, it will grow on you lol. and i agree, hero side only, 'tis the way i went, and looks right, adding stuff, just seems a bit wrong, but, each to there own as we all have differing tastes.
Cant wait to see more Bro, you know, she's a fave of mine anyhoo.

Ah yeah bro, she's not my fav but I reckon Im enjoying building her ! I dont have to scratch all those details since thos are kitparts, and you guys have already all the hard work ! So I think I will have great time to build her, she will not be as good/accurate as yours or Allan's, but I will do my best. Im not sure I gonna use all the accurate kitparts though, I will do with what I have in stock ! :unsure

Thanks Jerry !

Ive been working on her today but I spent most of my time hunting the kits Im missing for this little bugger ! Cant wait to receive them !

Well today I worked on the head :

I did the side panels (I havent vacformed them on this one, didnt want to spend time on doing a buck). Those are the V2 because I destroyed the first ones when I tried to remove them from the supports I did. Indeed, the support were too thick in my point of view (3mm). I went with 2mm thick supports and it's way better. I cant say this measurement is accurate because there is no support but a big blob of glue and the thickness of it is not consistant.

The tranny parts are not glued yet but I sanded the base of them down. I wanted to get them flush than the BT 44 boxes :

I dont know if it's accurate (but it's how I see them on the pics...) but I prefer them this way.
Ive also played with the gepard part. I was greatly surprised by the quality of the plastic of this copy of the kit. My last one was a very old one, plastic was very hard and brittle. This one is soft ! After having studied hardly the ref pics I went with that :

I enlarged the cutout of the part, that's how I see the part on the studio model... I also sanded the part as I think it looks too thick if you compare the thickness of the armature and the thickness of the part.

Now I'm positive that you just don't sleep Julien, another incredible build my friend, my god how many projects have you got on the bench dude, just amazing the work you produce!. Great pics BTW, love seeing all the pretty kit parts!.

Damn, do you have a tree in your backyard that "grows" money, if you do send me a couple "seeds" so I can plant one :confused

Did you cast the Aluminum or cut it from an existing piece, looks like a cast by the texture of the edges (sand).

I'm love'n this build Julien!

the "cast" texture you're speaking of is from the plate being cut by a wire EDM. The texture looks worse than it actually is. can be smoothed out pretty easily. btw, if these were cast, that means there was a mold made...if there was a mold, we'd be popping these guys out WAY quicker...lol.

Thanks you guys !

Scott, I hope to see you building this baby very soon !

Jay, Quincy explained better than I could why the edges are like that.

Yes I sleep (sometimes) Stu ! :lol
Unfortunatly Jay, I havent found the way to produce money yet :cry

Thanks Mike =)

Here a small update, Im still waiting for the kits, when I receive one I cut and dryfit (or glue) the part, very slow process, but still cool !

The cannon assembly is not finished and glued. I have to clean it up and add 2 more parts :) (tips of the tubes).

Looks awesome! The part under the forward chassis that everyone thought was the Lancaster turret looks spot on...

This one is as close as I came. Unfortunately it came in a bundle of kit parts that a guy donated me... I'll never know what kit it came from, but it looked a bit more accurate than the Lancaster turret.
