Ok, here we go. New thread per peoples request.
*************************************************************** I was asked by a board member here if I wanted to tackle this project for him. "Sure, why not," I said. As I am told, the kit I was given is indeed the one in question here. I will not debate the acccuracy or quality of it since it has obviously been done already. Suffice it to say, It did need a lot of cleanup and reworking on a great number of pieces, including cutting off the leading and trailing edges and reforming them, completely fabricating an new underside set of panels, and adding a reinforcing bar with RIVETS to the inside to help pull the warp out. A lot of warp and sag to the main body had to be corrected, and the engines were also totally redone. Much of this is in keeping with the fact that I was told this was a first pull from the molds and was done to "clean them out" from dust and the like. Perhaps they were not supported properly, and the care in doing a professional pull was not adhered to. Be that as it may, here is my finished result after more than a years worth of on and off construction. It is still not perfectly straight, and has many detals that are not accurate. I did the best I could with what I had. As a finishing touch, I did do a set of custom decals that match as close as I could make them to the studio scale original. Got most of the details from close-up pix that were printed in "Sci-Fi Fantasy Modeler magazine." Hope you like.
