Makes sense to me. Good to be corrected at this stage when I haven't begun painting yet (still filling in windows and putting together the armature).

Will do tonight. I'll take current pics and get all the build pics off my camera and finally start one. Kahn can use my thread to post his.

I may dabble in the video as well if I can figure out how to get some good, useful edits out of it. Been spoiled by yours.

Bottom line is it's a big model and once put together difficult to move or handle. This model kicks my butt!

Max better be engineering a special lifting crane to move his 11.5 footer. Hear me Max! :lol

BTW, Happy 1 year anniversary Steve. You have had a huge impact here. Interesting your join date is the same day Chuck Yeager broke the sound barrier! :)

A question about the shuttles you're including with the kit. Are those available seperatly? I'ld like to get a couple to display with my CR build.

[...]

I'm not sure about that it will be some time before I get to mold them. And they were given to me so I don't feel I can sell them or should.

[...]

Hey Steve,

Thnx for the responce in regards to the shuttles. I do completely understand. I didn't know if you had an agreement with the gent who made the masters or not.

[...]

Guess I have the bug for them now and will have to scratch-build my own. ;-)

Regards,

Tracy

Just FYI, I've spoken with Steve and gave him permission to offer the in-scale Shuttlecraft separate from his kits if there's any interest.

I'd originally done them up for him to simply offer as a neat little novelty/accent piece to go with his Enterprise, but if folks are interested in getting them separately I don't see why not.

You'd have to talk to him about pricing on those, though, and as I understand it he won't have them available for a while yet. So, please don't hound him :p lol

Just wanted to chime in here to let everyone interested know if there's enough interest, and Steve wants to (or has the time to) they can be available separately, at his discretion.

So What's with the Scale Shuttle? Did I miss a shot of it?

The in-scale Shuttlecraft I scratch built for Steve's kit can be seen in Part # 32 of his WiP video series. It's roughly half-way into that video.

I actually sent him two; one is larger than it should be, based on calculations I had from a while back. Don't know which one he'll want to use.

Wow! Didn't realize guys. Chuck is a big Hero of mine. One of the best days in my life is when I ran into him on the street and we shot the breeze for a long time about planes and WW2.

Thanks guys. Video is on the upload. And thanks Elvis!

Good to hear you are going to keep up with the vid's. Whilst watching the latest one I was thinking to myself you couldn't be far off finishing the model. Since it's become a bit of a routine for me of late to keep up with this each day, it was kinda depressing coming to that realisation. And then you made my day by confirming there is more to come.
And boy I sure am looking forward to your Nautilus build. I was checking out the vids of the ones you had made already on your website. Boy they look cool in action.

"Not much to show tonight".

Your words, Steve. But what you did show just blew my socks off. You've got THE ENTERPRISE right there. I'm just so impressed with every detail as well as the overall piece.

And I too am grateful there will be lots more videos.

Awesome, Steve! Glad you weathered the decals. I was thinking about that when I saw you put them on.

Wow. That subtle weathering to the decals indeed did the trick. I may have to try that myself on a model.

I can see what you mean by the optical illusion as the camera lens was showing it as well.

I believe the problem has to do with how massive the saucer is and the depth of field of our eyes. Given that looking across from one side of the saucer to the other, it gets kind of weird with about three feet of distance from one side to the other and the front edge of the saucer being about 18 inches closer to our eyes than the sides. Add that to the bulge contour on top of the saucer, no small features to break up the shape and the light color of the paint reflecting light and it makes for some weird tricks of the shapes appearing to do weird things until a straight edge is put on top (or until a contrasting color, such as red putty is added). Hence, the tortilla look.

Awesome work so far, Steve! There's got to be a way to brace the warp nacelles internally, though - welded iron skeleton, maybe, using bicycle frame techniques? There are some things seemingly without any earthly solution but with a hundred heads huddled together just you wait. They don't call this the space age for nothing.
