Steve,
I know it's probably old hat to you, but could you show how you trimmed the edges of the saucers (or the next appropriate piece) ?

I was wondering how you get from the ragged fiberglass sheet to the finished edge

thanks for all of the hard work you are putting into this

And will it need much more trimming?
Do yoiu have an armature design in mind or would you like help with that? I'll cut mine out with a CNC.

John I'm going to do the same deal as CR. It's a natural. I'm going to use the plans profile to scale and slightly under sized to make profiles in plex sheet and bolt together. Simple and direct.

As for the trimming John and Low these will be trimmed out of the box, with a pair of scissors and a bit of a dremel tool. You will still need to flat sand and fit but it will be really close to begin with.

Thanks guys,

Steve

I'll just copy what you do then. :)

Are you going to tint the resin too? That'd be cool. You tinted the epoxy to be able to see it better once in the cloth?

No John I won't. I don't like to mess with Urethanes. The White Alumilite paints well. demolds well and has little or no bubbles. I will leave well enough alone. ;)

The build is looking absolutoly wonderful. I just wish that you were able to continue your career with Hollywood being a props maker. So many films you have worked on aside from Ghostbusters. Heck the next time I watch that movie I will not think of it the same.

Hey folks,

please don´t derail this awesome thread with unnecessary and excessively negative commentsm directed at each other.

Trolling posts and follow ups have been deleted.

Thanks,

In a selfish way I'm glad the controversy occurred. I came for a stickybeak but I'll stay for the awesome work. :)

Very interesting. I was surprised how flexible the saucer section looked as you were pulling it out of the mold. I thought it would be more rigid...

That surprised me too. I haven't done much fiberglass work, but the only pieces I've seen were rigid and very brittle. I guess it's the chopped mat that makes it flexible? I've only used woven cloth.

The saucers look great, looking forward to the engineering hulls.

This'll work out nicely if I get my kit before you build yours. I can just copy what you're doing when you do start your buildup. :)

I'm interested how you're going to do your lights and circuits.

Thanks again guys ad John your will go out either end of next week or the beginning of the following week. As of Monday I have all the resin stuff to cast but it goes faster.

Got the secondary hull out and it's perfect. Really good.

Video later on.

Steve
