It's so exciting to see this finally coming together. I am giddy beyond all beliefe to see what you will personally do with this kit, and the fact that it will be your build from the very beginning is simply awe-inspring. Thanks again Steve for showing us what is possible...this is without a doubt one of my favorite projects to follow. And the best is that it was done the old-fashioned way.

It's been great following along as you made the molds, and you did an awesome job explaining as you went. I really learned a lot :)

Enjoy the time off, you've definitely earned it :thumbsup

Thanks so much I enjoyed your build too. and now I'm looking forward to your bridge set. Great idea!

Thanks Rob.

Just had a lil idea Steve....you could use the dome on the top like they did in the Pilot episode.
Use a neodymium magnet to attach it ...and have a small piece of translucent film (picture) that will illuminate a picture of the bridge. The magnets are made so small and so strong it would be easy enough to put one in.
Glad you got all the parts done it looks amazing seeing all the molds together.

Great idea but I'll do you one better based on your idea. Who will be the first to build a bridge kit for this model? Then you could remove the dome and look inside at the lighted bridge. ;)

Steve

VoodooFX is one the lighting kit as we speak. It looks like the board will have ESCs for the motors. Randy is doing a great job on this.

Any idea of a price for this lighting kit? Hopefully it's reasonable as I'm sure others will want it too.

I have no idea at this point John. He has a lot of work to do and I still have to send him plans and reference. It will be a beat on that.

I'll start making your hull kit up on Monday John. In fact I'm making up three this next week. Supplies ordered and the epoxy and glass will be here Monday.

Hi Steve,
Your CGI bridge looks terrific so far. I noticed how you use your mouse to move around. I suggest you get a Track IR "IF" that software will support it. If you haven't heard of this before, it's a device that uses mouse inputs via an infra red camera that tracks the movement of your head. The latest version has 6 degrees of freedom that allows you to zoom in, zoom out, tilt, shift, and turn your head in the virtual world as if you were really there. I use - as do thousands of virtual pilots - for Combat Flight simulations. I've been using it with with my squadron, The Blacksheep for over 8 years now...

TrackIR :: head tracking view control immersion for flight racing and action simulator :: TrackIR :: Premium head tracking for gaming

I think Track IR would be a GREAT tool in CGI rendering to speed up your progress, as well as make it easier and more fun by increasing what we virtual pilots call immersion.

BTW I've learned so much from your TOS E build, and the molding techniques you use. Thanks for sharing this wealth of knowlege.

Tracy

Wow Tracy that cool. I'm afraid I use it more for flight Sims and gamin than anything else though. Now I'm the one that's been living in a cave. ;)

Thanks!

Steve

Steve,
Is there no end to your talents? I am finding this whole thread very informative and it really gives me an appreciation of what goes into making and planning these things. I actually find myself looking forward to the next video. Looks like I am going to have to see what I have available for funds as this is a one of a kind opportunity.

Thanks for sharing all the tips. I can only imagine how great the build is going to end up.

I second what JCByrdman has said. It is really inspiring to learn from a master.

Thanks again.

Waiting on materials today.

Tomorrow I go pick them up and we are back to video and laying up parts. John from the forum purchased a kit so I'll be making up two this week.

One is for me. I have ordered the motors for the nacelles thanks to Max who located some good ones. With any luck I'll start slowly building mine in a few days. The fun begins.

Hey Steve at 1:52 pm eastern time I was working on my APC model and I felt my chair sway back and forth I thought I was dizzy from inhaling the red bondo putty Lol, so I stood up and felt it again it was an earthquake that starded in Virginia now I know what you guys feel in California , it was the 1st time I ever felt that.

LOL, my first was during Religious Education class in the UK... the teacher was talking about God's wrath (et al), bible thumping away, and I've never seen anyone go so white in my life. We didn't see her for weeks afterwards.

Well I was here at the center in 94. When it hit it was over a 8.0 not what the government lied about and so did the media. I had a friend at Cal Tech show me the print offs from their computers.

I knew it was more than 6.9 the convenient number for insurance reasons what else? Because when I got out of bed I was thrown to the floor repeatedly I couldn't even begin to stand. My teeth were banging together and I was thrown about like rag doll.

When it stopped the house was a disaster. Although the house survived little else did. The next day I literally took and shovel and scooped up what was once my collection and tossed it in the trash. All kinds of molds from all the movies I worked on went away too.

My brand new F 150 flare side full sized pickup truck was in the street. It was in the drive way.

And as I stood there that in my underwear I saw the explosions and fire coming our way. I ran back inside to save my three dogs. I did they were trapped under things. They were fine.

And as I stood there looking at this bizarre scene as if from a movie I looked up to see the Milky way in all it's glory as the city was completely blacked out. Then the truck radio was turned on in time to here the media man say we had a little shaker in the valley of 6.9. I'll never believe anything they say again.

Three weeks no water or power. Side walks buckled, all kinds of damage the media didn't show you. One day really need to get out of here.
