Stripping enamel paint of resin

I bought a resin prop that has a horrible paint job and I want to strip the paint off of it. Can I just dip this thing is paint thinner and scrub it off? What is the best way to go about this?

Thanks in advance!

Brad

Do not use paint thinner as it may damage the resin.

Drop it into a container filled with Pine Sol (original formula ONLY - No lemon scent) cover it and leave it be for 24 hours. Then just scrub off the paint and you have pristine resin to work with.

Make sure it is completely submerged. A tupperware container is a good choice.

Don't be shy - just dunk it into Acetone and it should fall right off - get it off with a toothbrush that you never want to use again and wash with soapy water to deactivate the Ace. And for God's sake, stop buying stuff on Ebay.

done!

Sorry for bumping this old thread, but I have a solid resin prop with a clunky paint job (uh, that I did a while ago.. lame) and I noticed the 3 methods above:

Pine Sol
Oven Cleaner
Acitone

Which of these requires the least "elbow grease" to get the paint off? I ask because i have a newborn and its hard to find time to scrub things with a toothbrush for hours..

If you're not in a rush use Simple Green neat and soak the part for a couple of days and 99% will come off under a strong stream of water. I HATE standing at the sink for hours picking and scrubbing parts to get the paint off, so now I soak it and wait for a couple of days.

simple green works pretty well. i've used it several times to rescue plastic props. i've used it to take paint off abs and petg hockey masks as well as urethane resin props. great stuff.

I find that acetone takes the least elbow grease especially if left to soak. The resin will eventually be damaged by the solvent if left too long so keep a close eye on the stripping progress.
