Well, I just finished my Horn of Gondor replica and sat down to braid a leather strap for it. The braiding was going fine but then I realized that I had no idea how to attach it to the rings.

I tried to figure it out but I'm crying "uncle". Anyone here know how to do what I'm seeing in these reference pics?

Wow, you did a beautiful job on that!! Muy excellent!

The strap looks like a round braid to me. Then looks like that is put through the ring
on the horn and the short end spliced back into the braid like you splice rope.

I'll dig around see if I can find some how to do's.......

EDIT: Braiding in the round....this one has some pretty good illustrations.

one with photographs if you prefer

and there were lots of videos as well.......

The splicing seems to be called an eye splice.
I guess it would work the same on a four strand round braid as on a four
    strand rope....

    Hope that gets ya started!

After more looking at the pics, I'm thinking they didn't actually make an eye splice, but looks like they braided then slipped the strips through the loop/ring and wove or spliced them back through a couple or three inches.....which would be an eye splice without the eye specificity I guess :confused

Thanks Shylaah! I think you cracked it! I just have to find the leather strips now...I don't suppose you have a source for that as well, O Wizard?

I guess Tandy Leather would be your best bet if you have one close
enough to visit.......or if you don't mind taking your chances online!
Some kind of narrow lacing leather, thin--learn how to do the braid
then do a practice short length on whatever you find before you buy
it and get it home just to find out it doesn't work.

here's a tutorial for a leash that will help, you have a round braid and are looking to do a backbraid.
