i'm tempted to get a set of armour for myself. i've been offered an fx kit for a not bad price. are these any good? i've heard the helmets are oversized? how hard is the kit to put together? any tutorials? is fx armour ok if i wanted to join the 501st for example or any other garrison?

FX is pretty much the armor that all 501st use. I used to own a set, not a hard kit to put together and if you get it from a good seller, there is usually detailed instructions. Yes the helmet is oversized. I never liked mine and quickly switched it out for a GF helmet, which I am not sure you can still get. The person to ask any stormtrooper related questions would be Gino. I learned what i know from him. And also check out. Star Wars Helmets

Hi there. Have been tempted to a set myself. Sorry to hijack your post a bit but I am after the same info, so will monitor. The only quetion I have on top of this is where to get some in the uk?

thanks for the reply. as for the helmet, would a master replicas ce be a good alternative?

I've got FX with a Master Replica CE.

You have to modify the Master Replicas lid to make it good enough for clearance to the 501st. The main thing is the gap where the 'jaw' joins the face. I think most costume clubs also ask for the lenses, tube stripes and 'teeth' gaps to be modified as well. You also need to add the screws to the ears.

I also did the depth of the ears on mine, which was a pain in the arse.

This is what it looked like in the end.

It's not the most accurate, but mine's sturdy and because it didn't cost an arm and a leg, I don't freak when it takes a few knocks.

I'd recommend joining http://www.whitearmor.net/home/ and doing some research there.

I love my set I replaced the helmet with an AP helmet. because the helmet is 15% bigger than it should be. it was going to be a beginner suit for me but I like it and every one that has seen me in it think it IS the movie armor. for the right price go for it.

well today i bought the armour i'd been offered, got the full kit for £185 inc postage. i've got a spare master replicas ce helmet, so will see what the one that comes with the kit is like. as for other helmets that are accurate, how much do they go for? as i'll have the MR one and an fx helmet to sell to cover the costs. or, does anyone offer a service to convert the ce to an accurate lid? i'd do it, but i'd rather pay someone who's done it before to do it.

spotted a helmet i might get, what are accurate lens colours? i want to be able to see out of it so i'll go for flat lenses, but green or smoke colour?

If you are going for the TK you can use smoke but a TD needs to be green. Did you end up getting the FX armor? That's what I've worn, my only real issue with the kit are the shins and thighs. The shins are made for chickens and the thighs are made for the hulk. If you haven't gotten you armor kit yet I'd go with the new AM kit. THe lines are crisp and it is inexpensive to a TE, AP or RT.

FX is pretty much the armor that all 501st use.]

People keep saying that, but it's simply not true anymore. In fact, FX is not being made anymore, it's been replaced by AM now (well, there are a million FX recasts, but you get the point) and a lot of people actually go for the ROTJ derived suits, which are much closer to the real deal.

In reply to the post above mine: Stormtroopers didn't have smoke coloured lenses either, green is the way to go

pretty sure that only the sandtroopers had the green lenses. the other ones were bubble lenses, grey, which are crap.

you can also get "ANH2" which is damn good IMO. but the TE2 is very good as well. there are some from europe that are just fantastic.

the green lens material used on the original helmets were pretty crappy too... :lol

they're cast from the original moulds though arent they? so they'd be as close as you can get to being original?

no no no... don't get us started on AA :lol

if you want an accurate helmet... Gino's selling some of his... they are about as accurate as you can get.

Although, the AP helmets look good with FX armor, because they are both made of ABS. If you are interested in an AP helmet, send me a PM. They are accurate, durable, and less expensive.
