Does anyone have a tutorial or parts list to build this prop?

@scarf man - Thanks for the link.

@Great_Bizarro - That is what the tutorial listed above says, I plan to go to the hardware store in the next few days to see what I can find.

@jackdoud - I agree and than you for posting that.

@wince33 - Yes it does and that is a great idea to fall back on if the Mic doesn't workout for me.

I also found a FS thread that a friend of mine, EVO3 started offering them. His is very nice but I think I can make one not quite as nice (more like a stunt prop) for a little cheaper - but his are spot on screen accurate.

I was just gonna mention Evo's.
Still need to finish mine.

Stopped by Lowes last night and found a few pieces to get the body connected together, but the bottom is stumping me anybody have a sugestion? Or a pic of a of the bottom of a hardware comlink?

there was a run of comlinks a few weeks/month ago. the offered comlink was as close to the screenused as you can get IMO.
i think you´re looking for member EVO3! ;)

Were the originals O-rings or simply coiled black insulated wire wrapped round the body ?

The Parts of Star Wars site listed above said:
"The comlink Threepio had turned off was created from a piece used on many Star Wars props, a radial engine cylinder from an airplane model (2 halves glued together). Similar kits are currently made by Williams Bros. but none have an exact match for this piece."

The comlink EVO3 offered has a body of machined aluminum to be as close as one can get. I think that the o-ring version that is popular now is a budget or stunt option for the general look that most general fans will recognize

Ok I couldn't resist may be I should have, Went back to Lowe's and got
White PVC Threaded FA adaptor
close nipple from the sprinkler section
Several O-Rings 6 large and 6 small ones rings(I need 2 more of the small ones)
a faucet aerator dealybober

I used the Homer Jedi link to figure out the body

I cut off about 1/4" of the nipple, sanded the connector a bit to smooth out the bumps same with the close nipple to get the o-rings to lay flat. I cut a circle out of plastic to fit the metal ring for the bottom. i used a bit of old window screening and the left over plastic bit from the faucet flipped over works great to push into the connector to hold in the screen. I need to sand, prime and paint.

What do you think? Thanks Silverback great idea.

I wanted to post the final product. I got all the parts at Lowes. I do think Id like to redo the mic screen with a metal screen as apposed to the fiberglass.
