Stormtrooper Blaster

I bought my self a de-activated L2A3 Sterling that I'm converting to a stormtrooper blaster. The magazine is my next project. When cutting it down, should the magazine be cut straight across so when fitted in the magazine housing the cut end is parallel with the magazine housing, or so should it be cut on a angle to match the curvature of the magazine.

:confused

When I cut my sterling mag down & made a mold of it. I made my 1st cut between the mag end and the stop piece that is on the back edge so that it was close to radius type line cut. I then put the top end of the magazine in the mag well, decided how far I wanted it to stick out, & used the 1st cut line as my scribe edge on the bottom half to get that cut line. I cut it so that most of the 'magazine' stamping was still intact & the scaloping matched on the 1 edge; I think it says 'magazin' on it actually. Then I just adjusted the horizontal band saw to match that scribe line & cut it. Cleaned up both sides with a file. To attach the 2 pieces I pushed the top half's cut edge into a small layer of alumilite's plastic clay, poored a small plug of alumilite @3/4 of an inch thick. I knocked that plug out some (it still was slightly flexible/warm at that time) so I had a ledge to attach the bottom to and just used some black silicone on the inside to hold it all together.

HTH

*edit here's pictures. I actually got the full magazine imprint on it and the next few letters of whatever was next*

Thanks for that - by the way, has your photo been reversed as it shows the magazine on the right, whereas it should be on the left.

I bought a sterling parts kit and cast the pieces up and made several resin & metal tube/resin blasters. When I did the mag-well mold for the 2nd time, I covered the outside with some 18g Aluminum on the top/bottom/front edges to build up thickness so it wasn't as fragile. In doing this I also made it where the mag could be reversed because you just had to drill the Magazine Release button hole & slot that holds the retainer bit. My 1st all resin blaster I kept busting the magazine well off on because I kept bumping it into things.... being right handed, I just was not used to wearing a holster on the left.... I decided to correct the issue by moving the mag well to the right side so I could wear the holster on the right. Not cannon, but saved fixing the blaster repeatedly.

That picture is the 2nd all resin blaster I cast with the center hollowed out to hold one of the Radio Shack 2 AA battery holders. The "counter box" is a RS project box that holds the guts of a Hasbro blaster & speaker. There's a large red LED in the blaster barrel at the tip. And the trigger contacts were taken from the Hasbro unit and customized to work with the trigger in the blaster. I made a few subsequent castings for friends as display pieces, but used Aluminum tubing for the main blaster body and cast the handle, barrel end, & end cap end that has the slots for the end cap fixed in place. Result was a minor seam line but 1/2 the finished weight.
