Hi Guys,

I guess this have been discussed before, but I'd like to know your thoughts about this...

What was the real material used in the stormtrooper belts ???

- Leather dyed white with fraid edges ???

- White canvas folded a few times with some interfacing (or just teh canvas)?

- any other ??

I'm just wanted to know what was used ... and also what have you used...

(I'm gonna assemble a few armors for a friend and want to make it the most accurate as possible).

Thanks.

Hey Clutch, I don't believe they were solid canvas. Looks like 1 type of material with a second different top layer stitched on.

I make canvas stormtrooper belts in either natural or whitened canvas, its your choice what look your going for. The background troopers seem to be natural where as the hero belts were whitened. They fasten at the back with velcro and are light weight but nice and strong.

Here are some pics of my belts

According to TE, who had access to the original suits, it was and I quote, "100% cut and stacked and sewn canvas."

Matt also had two original helmets in his possession and thought that they were painted with latex paint. :rolleyes
He also swore up and down that the two helmets that passed through his hands were of two different sizes. :rolleyes
What I'm getting at is that he doesn't have much knowledge of materials and processes so it doesn't matter if it is right in front of him, I wouldn't put much faith at all in his ability to identify anything.
Believe what you want, but I can tell you that is not the case.
I'm pretty sure I know what the base material is (which I'm saving for another project), it's the outer material that is still not nailed down...yet.

DING DING! :lol
And what does the magic 8-ball tell you this time?

They were canvas with a plastic-like back to add rigidity. I've seen the pics, have a nice day

No not at all. Canvas could possibly be the top layer of material but I'm not certain. I do feel pretty confident on the under layer of material and it's certainly not canvas or plastic.

I have had a few people ask me about the belts i am doing. Just to give an idea with out me sending pictures over and over:thumbsup i hope this isn't high jacking

Back in my trooping days I used white vinyl but with the backing on the outside. Looked pretty close. Not saying that's what the production did, but maybe the thought could open new avenues of consideration.

I did the same thing, looked pretty close for the screen used stuff.
