It looks cool, but allow me the question: why?

I mean, I never thought of the armor as being from steel, rather some sort of light-weight futuristic polymer. It also doesn't "clank" in the movie, so why steel?
And I imagine it would be very heavy, even more uncomfortable than an ABS armor and more expensive and/or labour intensive than a plastic armor. So why steel?

But man, it DOES look cool. :cool

Cheers!

Neat idea. I've heard of mandalorian mercs making their armor out of metal as well.
One suggestion though, the steel will probably be very heavy when all said and done. It might be wiser to use alluminum that is a lot lighter.

Why? Because it's awesome.

Thanx for the input. I work with steel and aluminum. It's more of a challenge to do it in steel because its more difficult- weight has little to do with it - really steel doesnt weigh that much at all in small pieces. However I am making another suit in aluminum just for fun.

Looks pretty cool and a very interesting approach too. Are you planning on leaving it as is or painting it? I think that since you made all the effort to make it in steel you should leave it as is or at most blue it or apply some other sort of finish that leaves the armor recognizable as being made from metal.

I think it's 100% awesome, I love metal, plastic sucks. Keep on keepin on, by the look of things you may have the most effective suit of stormtrooper body armor in the universe when you are done, even if it isn't studio prop accurate :)

WOW, you are now my personal Hero, this is amazing. I cant wait to see a finished product and maybe acquiring one if the option is offered. I can't wait to see more!!!!

I would have thought 20 gauge steel was a little thick, I can't argue when it looks that awesome!!

Thanx for the great comments all! As Darth mentioned I plan to put the steel suit on a manequin - then set it outside and let it rust while the aluminum suit might reflect better in my car I am slightly altering....

Great! I always wanted to see a Trooper made out of steel! Good luck and keep on posting progress pics! :thumbsup

I'm seriously impressed so far. Setting the steel one outside is a very nice idea. Keep up the good work.
