rt*Hey all,
We've just added a cool piece to the site.
This is one of many custom furniture creations currently being designed for a crazy home theater/man-cave which we'll be installing in early 2010. Other pieces will be showcased on the site in the coming months so keep checking in.
The "Pressure-Modulating Transparent Surface Buttress" (or "table" for those that don't speak steampunk!) was thought up by myself and Rich Riley, who also did the fabrication and really expanded on our original idea and knocked this one out of the frikkin' park. It's made mostly from PVC, with paint effects creating the brass, bronze and weathered look. The addition of metal and glass elements really make it pop. Most of the greeblies are found items Rich hunted down or found in the junk boxes.
We went for kind of a "chunky" steampunk vibe (steam-chunk?), to fit in with the larger design of the rest of the room that this will be a part of. Aged rather than shiny, beefier pipes and elements, etc. Made for an interesting feel to the piece and it's going to contrast nicely against some of our other elements.
The best part is, the client absolutely LOVED it and that's really what it's all about! (and well he should, Rich really clobbered this one IMO!)
Please visit the site for a look at this and other projects: Tom Spina Designs Sculpture, Home Theater Furniture Art and Movie Prop Displays
Hope you guys dig it and thanks for looking!
