Starship Troopers Bug Claw Necklace

With the completion of the Audrey 2 project, I thought I would do something a little different and complete a project I started about 10 years back...

This was one of my very first replica prop projects and one of my very first attempts at sculpting. I did this by just watching scenes from the movie over and over on my TV. After finding a shot of the actual prop years later, I don't think it's half bad. :)

I had a few casting done but the one pictured is the only one left. What I painted is the original Sculpy model. I will be adding a chain to make it an official "necklace" soon, but I thought I would go ahead and post shots of the paintjob.

The original prop:

Thanks for looking!

I use translucent resin, but it's very difficult to control the final look.

Nice work!

Guys, if you want a screen accurate chain, just hit a hardware store. I ended up using some a long time ago to make part of a chain whip for a costume, and it's identical to that.

You may have to buff it up a bit, or just spray paint it with some silver paint, but its cheap and plentiful.

Great sculpting though. I have been thinking of getting a bug kit for a while now. I think having the necklace hanging off the trigger guard of the rifle would make an interesting display :)

...and I thought no one cared! :lol

Great sculpts, LeMarchand & Blad... Those look great! Thanks for posting those. :)

It's a cool little prop and I'm working on getting the chain and making a display as we speak. :)

I may try to get my last resin piece re-molded and cast pretty soon if anyone's interested. :)

I sculpted one myself a few years back. Turns out to be the first and last thing I ever sculpted.

I could never find a base for it, so I sculpted that on as well. I painted the base with silver paint, but I think I'm going to repaint it with with alclad chrome.

I'll take some pics over the next couple of days and post 'em up.
