Stargate Blueprint

Click the Go Advanced button below the Quick Reply then scroll down to Manage Attachments. That should get you started. Great model by the way. I've been watching the entire series from the beginning so I found your post to be quite the coincidence. Welcome to the RPF.

Thanks for the pic posting tip! Im on my tablet now so i dont have anything to post from here. But when i get to the office ill be sure to post some nice hirez pics i have. I would also like to say that the model is quite accurate regarding the actual ring, uprights and clamps. The base had some small accuracy issues but it was a prototype. It was being engineered for a production run of 500 SGC gates and 500 off world gates with a DHD device. The production models were going to be all metal (cast aluminum ring parts and machined aluminum and patina copper). This project was a real point of pride for me and I was really devastated when I couldnt bring it to market. I have been thinking about doing a all metal cast kit but seeing how i have had a license before if i did this without one i might get in more trouble than its worth.

Metal gate ring proto type... patina over zinc base cast in SAND of all things got down to fine point engraving through a lot of trial and error.... 80 hrs of machine time for the rear face tool alone. (two tools)

Wow, that really does look like the definitive Stargate scale replica. It's beautiful!
How does that "Glass illuminated event horizon" work? The photos look like there's an actual puddle projected somehow. Are those edited photos, or is that what it looks like? :eek

Hi all, I just joined the forum and thought i should intro myself. I am Rex Reeb I havent done anything with the SGC model since I had issues regarding my MGM license among other things in Hollywood land. Truth be told I was thouroughly disgusted by some things and people in the industry that I cannot discuss in public forums. I do love precision models and scifi ones in particular. I know this thread is old and i dont know if anyone will see this post or not but hey better late than never. I plan on doing some lurking around and maybe make some replicas!!!

All I got to say is that model is incredible !

The puddle isnt edited in it is a machined piece of shower glass :) . Its not illuminated except by the camera flash. In the production model it would have been edge lit w bright blue leds and surface treated to redirect light, but never got that far before the project came to an end unfortunatley. Thanks for all the compliments guys! I see some of the talent on this site .....blows me away man great group. I also have done another high end scale firefly replica ....but im not sure i can share photos of it because of contractual issues, ill have to see. It was shown at comicon 2010 but ill have to see i think you might get a kick out of it as well.

I also forgot to mention the picture on the left in the foundry pattern that was used to make the ring you see to the right. The funny looking attachment is the gate in which molten metal passes into the mold. I poured the zinc at 800+- deg F and 1450deg F for aluminum in my in house foundry. Never got around to brass, bronze or copper, although i did have one made in brass at a seperate foundry it failed as the molds made for a casting of this detail is quite fragile and they are used heavy duty pour regimes. Ill upload more pics of the bits and peices if yall want.

Beautiful work and the shower glass idea is inspired!
I have installed that glass for a client and it never hit me how much it does look like the event horizon.

...and yes, we do love Firefly stuff around here so start a new thread and show that baby off!!!

Yea there was photos of it taken at comicon and it was shown publicly.... so there shouldnt be a problem but i gotta find out for sure. When i do ill share for sure. It is a certain brassy shiny pistol :) ......stay tuned for that. Aaanyway i searched and searched for the event horizon's perfect iteration. I tried machining, polishing, tumbling,, machining then flame polishing, back lighting, side lighting etc etc etc. One day i was at my plastics supply house and BANG! There it was lol. I might consider producing a all metal kit but it will depend on certain circumstances to come to pass. Ill put together some more pics tomorrow at the office.

Anyone have the AI file for this, the link is no longer working.

Read this thread in its entirety...
I've downloaded it yesterday, layers are beautifully done.

I lasered this today in fact.
