Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

I have to say that all of the little things that bothered me are starting to go away. The fact is, there was very little exposition (not even as much as there was in ANH) and the more lines I'm reading between, the more I like it.

That being said, The score, the design, and the starkiller base are still misses for me.

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

Oh yeah, did anyone else notice that C-3PO looked like crap? What was up with his costume? Also, he did not look like dirtied up gold chrome, he looked like gold rattle can spray paint.
.

Yup - and the red arm was dumb. Change purely for the sake of change.

I thought Chewie blew himself up after that until we see him again.

Same here...

Ok, now to make a positive point. Was anyone else expecting Finn's whole 'I'm with the Resistance!' schtick to turn into another one of those melodramatic clichéd 'You lied to me!' moment? You know the one I'm talking about. The character lies about who they are, the significant other finds out either through the villain or convenient info dump, they get upset at the character and now they must embark on a quest of redemption. This was one of the strongest points I had against Avatar not just because I've seen it a million times, but this one in particular made me hate the hero instead of feeling sorry for him. When Finn told Rey everything and she was actually understanding of it all, I almost cheered. We've been spared a forced dramatic moment for good character growth!

I fully expected it and was not looking forward to it. I'll second the relief that we were spared that potential melodrama. The chemistry between the characters in this movie was really something that was done well

I was a token gesture. I wanted to see Chewie with the robot arm like in the concept art.

There was awesome concept art. why did they scale it back so much?

Re: Star Wars TFA. Warning spoilers and I hate it!!! Haters and Lovers Welcome

There is a pattern of Wookiee abuse from the OT; where she referred to him as this walking carpet and shorted him on his medal.

She also might have a bone to pick with Chewie for running away with Han.

Suppose Peter Mayhew will still have a job...?

How will Chewie fit into eps VIII and IX now? Just hangin' with Rey, I suppose...?

Talking about robot arms... What happened to the life-like sheath for Luke's hand? Visual story telling just to remind us (and inform newbies) of his lost appendage?

I see the Kylo and Han bit more as Kylo wanting Han to help him finish his turn to the darkside. We're led to believe it's him asking for Han to help him back to the light and it's even indicated by Kylo handing over his lightsaber - but, he's strong with the force and we never see Han take it from him. Han also appears confused in the scene - maybe he can't leave, maybe he can't toss the saber off the bridge, maybe because Kylo Ren has him under control?

Ben Solo wants to be with the darkside - he wants the lightside out. Killing Han is how he feels he can do this.

I agree with JD, this is exactly how I read the scene. Kylo says something along the lines of "I know what I must do to end the conflict within me but I don't know if I have the strength to do it. I need your help." I interpreted that as, I need to kill you in order to completely give in to the dark side.

I'm assuming that he just doesn't give a crap about it any more. Maybe there was upkeep.

I wore contact lenses from age 16-35. Now I couldn't be bothered

But more about cyborg stuff, remember when they said Max von sydow would be an aging cyborg in a bar? What happened there? The more I look at the concept art, the more I see how they scaled back the design of everything. In that way, this film could have used more Lucas

Yeah given his ability to control people, I wouldn't put it past Kylo to have been controlling Han a little there, which could explain Han not being as cautious as he should have been.

Maybe Lando will end up making an entrance in the next film and take the helm of the Falcon and hang with Chewie ;)

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

So exactly where do you see R2-Kt?

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

R2-KT was in the bottom right of the screen at the Resistance base exterior. Also was completely unweathered which made it really seem out of place.

All I took out of Kylo Ren's "Will he? Won't he?" was how it took the whole Jedi Morality code and tossed it off the catwalk. We've been beaten over the head again and again in the prequels that attachments are a path to the dark side and if only Anakin didn't hook up with Padme, everything would be just fine and dandy. For Kylo Ren, that's not the case. It's his attachment to his family that leaves him conflicted and shows that there is still light in him. Murdering Han Solo is quite literally severing his attachment to the ones he loves and it's all done in the name of the dark side.

If Luke ever tells Ray that having attachments is a path to the dark side and that she must severe herself from those she cares about, well, she can now say she witnessed the exact opposite happening.

Also, I think they're building up to a reveal that Luke never told anyone (Well, outside of Leia) about Vader turning on the Emperor to save his son. For Kylo Ren to worship Vader as the ultimate Dark Side follower and how much he hates TRAITORS(!), I don't think he knows that little detail. If he did, I think his motivation would be less trying to be just like him and more trying to be better than him. And what better way to do that than to willingly kill your own family in the name of the dark side? Part of me feels like that's what they should have done since it's pretty obvious now that Luke will tell Kylo that Vader turned on the dark side to save him, which will no doubt cause more inner conflict. I bet that's what will happen.

Maybe I missed it in these 23 pages, but the weaponry and even lightsaber stuff felt much more like something akin to how things were done in the new battlestar series compared to the original.

Things seem much more ballistic/concussive than "pew pew laser" for lack of a better way to describe it.

Even the sound effects seemed different. I may have missed it in everything else going on, but the battle scene didn't sound like Star Wars (not necessarily good or bad, just different)

Like the missiles tracking the ties fighter, the destructiveness of laser blasts, literally blowing people back instead of just them falling down like nothing hit them. Debris from destroyed ships instead of just fireballs.

The blood.

I guess in a way it felt less "fantasy like" and more a term I hate to say, "grittier" violence at times

Kylo bleeding from his wound and in obvious pain

No one getting a limb cleanly chopped off and cauterized. Instead catching the slicing blade and showing bleeding wounds from it.

Kylo tipping the hilt parts into Finns shoulder, then slicing him up the back

The lightsaber battles themselves were even different. It felt much less like a choreographed acrobatic routine and more like an actual battle to beat down an opponent

So she matched Threepio

kylo wasn't controlling han at all. Han had this as his only chance to confront his son one on on. You know as soon as you call to Ben, its go time. Either you will walk away with your son by your side or you will you be destroyed by him. His chances would likely never get better than this to save Ben.

Re: Easter Eggs, Mirroring of the OT in The Force Awakens (SPOILERS INSIDE)

Luke's first light saber (his father's saber) being stuck in the snow to be pulled out by The Force (using what I will guess to be the exact same sound byte from ESB).

Re: Star Wars TFA - How much they got paid **SPOILERS**

I heard Mark got 10 million + % of profit.

Ford got so much cause he hates Star wars, yet they needed him to come back.
