STAR WARS Rebels new animated series!

Pretty good episode, if a bit short, definite fodder material for the Mando armor fans out there. I imagine that all of the Mando costumers out there are getting busy trying to work out the details of these Mando pilot costumes.

Speaking of Mando costumes, anybody else notice that Sabine's helmet is a lot different than other Mando helmets? I'm not talking about the shape of her visor or the paint job but the bottom opening, on Boba Fett & Jango the bottoms are completely open, on Sabine's it's semi-enclosed like a Storm or Clone Trooper helmet but even more so. Seeing that it made me wonder, how does Sabine put the helmet on and take it off when the shelf (for lack of a better word) on the bottom goes under her chin?

The Rebels Recon for last night's episode is such a tease. Filoni 'arguing' that Sabine's mother was in the same room when Pre Vizsla was executed by Maul. C'mon now, just say who it is already! Another interesting tidbit was Vizsla and Kryze are separate houses. With Sabine identifying as House Vizsla instead of Kryze, that makes me doubt Bo-Katan is her mother.

Could just be that way to make the animation easier.

Not really, it makes it more difficult since there's now less room around the bottom so a collision/clipping is easier. It also adds more polygons to the model and more polys means longer rendering time although a flat shape like that is probably pretty low poly and wouldn't add all that much to the rendering time, but collisions/clipping would still be a concern. Remember, this is 3D animation we're talking about, not hand drawn cel animation, if it was then you'd have a point, by adding the bottom the animators wouldn't have to worry about drawing in the bottom of Sabine's head. With a 3D model you don't have to worry about that, it's always there unless they build the model so that you could chop off the top and front of her head to save on polys and reduce rendering time.

I think it is very interesting and have no issue if it turns out to be true. However I know there are some narrow minded fans out there that cannot grasp the concept of a rebooted EU. Meaning that the appearance of a well known EU character does not mean all previous info about the character will hold true in the new canon nor does it mean that other characters from those original stories also exist in the new canon.

Oh it's wrought with peril. :) I'm a big EU fan but I am rational enough to appreciate the need to vacate it for new stories, so since I'm not an EU lunatic, I accept any changes they want to make. And if this is true, Jason owes Dave Filoni and apology. :)

I like the sounds of this rumor, and the thing is, given the 30 some odd year gap between Jedi and TFA it's still possible for this character to be re-introduced to the canon in the form that we first introduced to him in.

I liked this episode quite a lot. That all being said, I wish it was a two or three parter. All these stand-alone episodes leave this show feeling like "diet" star wars.

Looks like it could simply be thick padding.

I too would not mind seeing a 2 or 3 part episode but I would like it to be reserved for special stories. I disliked it when they made it the norm in the later seasons of Clone Wars. Some cases it felt right and other, not.

I agree, this episode definitely needed to be at least a 2 parter, as good as it was it felt rushed to me and really could have benefitted from at least one more episode to flesh things out a bit more.

Could be, hard to say from that pic, even brightend up I can't out much. But padding would make sense, otherwise there's no way that Sabine would be able to get the helmet on and off with shelf around the bottom.

Another possibility is that it could be a thin flexible membrane that helps keep an environmental seal.

That's a possibility too. It's interesting regardless, makes me wonder if any Sabine cosplayers out there noticed that and are going to modify their buckets accordingly, or other Mando costumers too for that matter, although there's no evidence to suggest that this is done on anybody's helmet except for Sabine's.
