Star Wars Ralph McQuarrie Concept blaster

Following on from my cutaway Judge Dredd lawgiver thread, Jason has asked me to post photos of his Ralph McQuarrie Concept rifle.

Jason had this to say about the finish...

Many thanks for the kind words! the finish is very easy to do and works just as well on a black or blued steel piece.

This blaster was sprayed in a metallic grey car paint, in this case here in the UK it was "Peugeot cossack grey" - you can never have too much "Peugeot cossack grey" in your shed....

Then it was a quick rub over with a sock and some silver to bring out the highlights - pretty standard stuff.

The main secret is a dusting with an airbrush or modelling spraygun of dark woodstain - gives it a nice oiled finish and really lifts the piece from an obvious model into something that looks very realistic. The stain takes a day to dry - don't be tempted to laquer or varnish it to seal it - nine times out of ten the stain will melt and you'll have to start again.

Here's a construction photo after 4 days.

Jason then brushed the gun with resin and sanded to seal and hide the grain of the wood before painting.

You've pretty much nailed it.
I'm wondering how big is this compared to say, an MR RFT blaster?

Absolutely beautiful! The process for getting that finish sounds relatively simple when you describe it, but I doubt I could come close to that spectacular look. Very nicely done!

Yes, Jason is going to have a go at the concept pistols as well.

He isn't going to do a run, but this one is going to be on eBay in around a week's time and if it goes for a good price he might be persuaded to make another. I'll put a post in the Junkyard when the auction starts but send me a PM if you'd like to be notified personally.
