Star Wars: questions you've always wanted answers for

I feel like the only time Luke ha an actual conversation with R2 was when he was reading it from the x-wing translator. Any other time was no different than when I talk to my dog.

Now that you mention it, I agree. Seems like he only talked at R2 without the translator while he was stuck on Dagobah. Maybe R2 was just his "Wilson" in that situation?

I always wondered: Is it possible that the Jawas were droids? It would explain their glowing eyes, similar size/shape and affinity for technology.

It makes you wonder why would they even build droids who talk like Artoo? Unless either the builders themselves talk like that or R2 units are only really supposed to interact with other machines and R2speak is some form of computer language.

That's the way I've always interpreted the function and "speech" of astromechs, they seemed to be designed as general purpose droids whose primary function is to interact with machines, vehicles, other droids, basically anything with a computer in it. Why they weren't designed with true speech capability or at least a text display is beyond me, maybe when they were originally designed they figured that anybody who's going to spend a lot of time interacting with an astromech will understand their "speech" or have some sort of translator handy.

I seem to remember either Hamill or Lucas saying that outside of the X-Wing that Luke (and Anakin) knows R2 well enough that he can get the gist of what R2 is trying to say.

yes hes talking to R2, but i believe luke still doesnt understand him unless lukes viewing the xwing screen. though, there are some fans in the r2 builders world who believe r2 can scroll text on his front logic displays

Ep-1-%20(27).jpg

logic displays that the blue and white lights in the small boxes. we think this because in epsiode one when queen amidala asks captain panaka what is the little droids name who saved the ship, it looks like he goes over to R2 and reads the logic display

many r2 builders have their displayed setup to scroll text, its very cool.

Actually, he did. 21 years later. The actual moment happens at the 2:36 mark.

Why does Vader have a cape? It's not that it's a part of a life support system...
Why would the Emperor give him a cape just after a rushed surgery to save his life?

Why would the Emperor have that fully designed Darth Vader costume.....ready for Anakin/Vader anyway......I think it would have been better if we saw Anakin with a cobbled together life support suit.....perhaps more like this with a cloak over his head:

Even if they made a rough version of the RMQ design,....at least we would see the evolution of Vader through the films......

^ simple answer, look at 3d printers today, imagine the technology they have in the star wars universe. they could probably fabricate that life support suit in a matter of acouple hours ;)

I too, would have loved to see an intermediate step. Imagine if the Obi-Wan duel happened at the halfway point, rather than the end. Then the climax of the film could have been order 66

I see I'm not the only one who was thinking about it. But 3D printing technology seems like a valid answer. If not, it would look like a Darth Vader suit was a common life support suit in the galaxy, thus Vader wasn't the only one wearing it...

It seems a bit un- Star Warsy,...more of a Star Trek replicator answer

Really Lucas just wanted us to see Darth Vader complete,....through the OT we saw the Vader costume evolve from a steel grey/black weathered costume to a high gloss costume,...Lucas was very proud that the ROTS costume was at last perfect,...symmetrical, he was fixing, once again imperfections of the OT, imperfections that probably only annoy him

Ideally the cybernetic Vader should have been more wires & exposed bionics,.....rather like the Episode 1 3PO,....his respirator breathing for him would be the only recognisable Vader connection

By the time we see him in the Rebels cartoon,....(which they have decided to base his costume closer to the RMQ design),....he's looking like what he does in the OT

If he's in Rogue One,....it would be nice if they don't use the 'perfect' ROTS costume & have him in the duller more metallic ANH style

So many things were wrong with the Prequels,....missed opportunities
