I don't have a VW but my friend has a 2010 Jetta. Clean diesel... My father has his own performance shop, I know how hard it is to make horsepower and still keep emissions... It's very very tough... I've seen the gas mileage get killed on all the ford trucks since emissions cracked down on diesel... Now this all makes sense how VW has gotten away with it..

The Empire probably had 100s of Star Destroyers so why would it not make sense that some parts of it survived? The Rebels just cut the head off. That wasn't the entire Imperial fleet at Endor.

Multiply that "100's" by a few thousand.....

I don't get the hate for the Empire not only surviving but being very tenacious about sticking around and still being the big problem all these years later-think about it we're talking about a galaxy here and to control that? you'd need a humongous military to even think of trying that,to actually do it?

Let's just say I'm very pleased with the new film and the "new" Empire and I wouldn't be at all surprised if the new trio of films ends with a stalemate against the Imperials and they being a very fixed part of the new Republic very far into the future,they aren't based on a single planet so the "economy" collapsing isn't a problem,as I said I would bet there are at least a handful of worlds who support them and would help them.

Never mind that they may be the only law in some areas,perhaps better then the one present in the old republic which if you remember was rather corrupt,I suspect a few years of bloody chaos between the warring Empire and the Rebels,then a cold war of sorts when the Empire reasserts itself-and frankly that could be a gold mine of films set between ROTJ and TFA

I like the Empire no use hiding that,but looking at the size of it? and the way it could play out? I really,really doubt they just ended with Vader and Palpy's death,in fact with them gone the whole thing may have gotten STRONGER then some of you who wish them gone may have counted on.

I hope they do like I'm thinking and make the Empire a permanent part of the SW story.

My kids are 5 and 6, I think they are ready to watch all of the starwars films. They have seen bits of ANH already. So for young kids is it best to watch them 1-6 or 4,5,6,1,2,3? I'm excited I have not seen them in a long time myself. Getting them and myself ready for number 7.

but why go with the color they chose? maybe they couldn't get the silver sufficiently dirty looking and had to go with another color that looked better all banged up?

Why not go with the color they chose? I think they simply wanted to reinforce the fact that C-3PO was a droid--a machine, not a human in a suit--and, as such, would need to be repaired on occasion like any other machine. If they hadn't used a different color, that wouldn't have been as apparent. I sincerely believe there's nothing more to it than that; it doesn't have any deeper meaning or symbolism. And in the upcoming Episode VII his entire left arm is red, but his lower right leg is gold/brass again. I don't know if there's a specific reason for that (and if there is, I don't want to know); maybe they're trying to show 3PO is clumsy and accident prone?

In Episode II C-3PO was still mostly assembled from scrap parts and hadn't received the gold/brass plating yet. That apparently happened between Episodes II and III, because in Episode III he's nicely plated and polished and uniform in color.

Of course, the real reason C-3PO is so dirty throughout the Original Trilogy movies is because the audience would be able to see the reflections of the camera(s), crew, and stage lighting in the plating if he was bright and shiny. The technology didn't exist in the mid-1970s and early-1980s for them to correct that in post production, so they dirtied him up. By the time they filmed Episode III the technology existed for them to "erase" any unwanted reflections in 3PO's plating, so that's why we finally got to see him all nice and shiny.

...Also curious what the hell they saw in hayden christensen. He had this weird, awkward acting style...like he couldn't even get the words out without stumbling over them. when he's supposed to be acting all angry, he comes off as just kind of..miffed.

I've said this before, but I think the real problem with Christensen is that he's not good at looping (re-recording dialogue in a sound studio after filming is complete). If you watch him closely his body language and/or facial expressions are correct for the scene, but when he speaks his voice just doesn't match.

Lol! Yeah that whole duel just went beyond ridiculous. I guess it was a fittingly disappointing capstone to a disappointing trilogy. Yikes.

As far as I'm concerned, Ian McDiarmid was just about the only one that offered a passable performance in the PT and even he got a little wonky in parts, especially in ROTS.

As for Obi Wan having the high ground, the Mythbusters tried that.

Speaking of the Battle of Endor (aside from why wasn't the rebellion crushed with a counter attack)....Why did the SSD go down when the bridge was hit? There weren't any secondary command centers on that massive ship? What exactly brought the ship down in the first place?

As a kid ROTJ was my favorite film, mainly because of the giant space battle, but now I feel like there are lot of convenient plot points throughout the entire thing.

Well, as I recall, the EU says there were secondary command centers throughout the ship but the gravity of the Death Star pulled the ship in before they could regain control. Not sure what, if any, canon explanation there is.

and always thought that they weren't really speeders in the sense that Luke's sand speeder was but more like any other space ship. I mean, look at the X-wings in TFA flying over that lake.

Perhaps they x and y wings really are made for space. We've never really seen tgem handle in atmosphere. And they need them as defensive escort for the escape. The snow speeders are just the last line of defense; holding off the walkers as long as possible

For crying out loud Darth Maul had the high ground in Phantom Menace and look how that turned out. Lucas forgot what happened earlier in his own trilogy.

That's true. But what we saw was hardly combat manouvers.

Like I said, it may not be about the abilities of the x and y wings as much as it was about the lack of abilities of the snowspeeder (heck it may have to with the fact that the snowspeeder can handle prolonged cold)

Mark Hamill has said a number of times that George Lucas told him he had to hold his lightsaber with both hands because they would be difficult to use because of the way the hilt projected the blade, and made the comparison to a sword with a thick, heavy blade. Apparently, in the interim between the two trilogies Lucas decided to go with "flashy" instead of "heavy and difficult".

If you're looking for an "in universe" explanation (i.e., retconned bullsquirt), by the time of the Original Trilogy movies Obi-Wan was much older and out of practice, as was Vader, and Luke wasn't particularly experienced.

It'll be interesting to see how lightsabers are handled in the upcoming trilogy movies--fast and flashy, or old and slow. :lol

We also saw Luke crash land his X-wing into the swamps of Dagobah. Of course heavy precipitation can probably do that to any star ship though.


On a side note, I'd just like to mention that I was really mesmerized by that Cirque de Soleil performance in the PT when Palpy tells Anakin about Darth Plagueis. It was hypnotic.
