Star Wars: questions you've always wanted answers for

Well depending on whether Disney has messed the explanation up, they were just what they're called, tow cables. They could tow other speeders, equipment, maybe pods transporting goods, whatever.

How about this one:

We all know that in the SW universe, you can jump in your ship and be out of the atmosphere and into space in seconds, right? So, in TESB, at Cloud City, Leia and group escape into the Falcon and take off. Then there is a good five minutes of lightsaber battle, the whole "I am your Father" bit, and Luke falling down the chasm. He hangs there and call for Leia. WHY are they still just flying through the clouds? Why haven't they gotten into space yet?

Yes, the hyperdrive is deactivated, but they don't know that yet.

You might say "Well, they knew Luke was there and they were trying to figure out what to do." But that seems unlikely as when Leia says to turn back, they are all agog like they think she is crazy.

Seems a long time to just be flying around the clouds.

weren't they engaged in combat with the TIE fighters? Perhaps they were trying to figure out what to do before engaging with the star destroyers in orbit?

That works, but why is it attached to a launcher? If it's for towing things then why not just make it manually operated where you have to walk up to whatever it is you want to tow and attach it by hand instead of shooting at the target? Were these speeders designed as some sort of rodeo tower, built to tow things in mid-air? I know that people are going to argue that they could be a flying version of a two truck, but if an air speeder broke down wouldn't it lose its ability to fly and hover and thus not need to be rescued in mid-air?

whatever happened to rick mccallum?

at the time, I always thought he was going to be the george lucas successor. then he vanished, and along came dave filoni out of nowhere.

personally, I think rick was georges 'get it done' yes man. anything george wanted done, rick made sure was done.

Some questions are easily answered,....with google & wiki:D

[h=3]Red Tails[edit][/h]McCallum was one of the producers of Red Tails, an action-adventure movie on which Lucas was executive producer, that pays tribute to the spirit of World War II's Tuskegee Airmen. The movie was released nationally in the U.S. on January 20, 2012.
[h=3]Retirement from Lucasfilm[edit][/h]Following Lucasfilm's announced acquisition by the Walt Disney Company, on October 31, 2012 ForceCast.net podcast Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet stated that "Rick has retired from Lucasfilm".[6] There have been no reports as to how this will affect plans for a live-action TV series set in the Star Wars galaxy, with which McCallum was previously involved.[7]
[h=2]Career after leaving Lucasfilm[edit][/h]After leaving Lucasfilm, McCallum settled in Prague in the Czech Republic.[8] His Prague-based company, United Films, develops film projects and provides production services for Czech and European feature films.[9][10] Films that McCallum is developing include R'ha, a science fiction feature film based on an earlier short film, to be directed by Kaleb Lechowski and written by Matthew Graham;[9] In the Fog, a World War II film by Ukrainian director Sergei Loznitsa;[11] So Far So Good (Zatím dobrý), based on the novel by Jan Novákabout the Mašín brothers;[8][12] and (as executive producer) A Long Way Home, directed by Paki Smith and written by Alex Rose.[13]

yeah, but google is so impersonal ;o) and it was a spur of the moment thought ;o)

huh...what a weird way to end up your career. from star wars to being wound up in prague of all places.
kind of reminds me of that nbc reporter that matt lauer banished to the frozen wastelands of russia after they get into a disagreement ;o).

It could have been fitted to kill hoth local aggressors wampa, pulling ships also sounds cool, stopped air speeder , local recovery group have attaching repulsors to get it back to the shop.

McCallum is a nuts-and-bolts line producer, the guy who gets all the legwork and hiring and orginzation and scheduling done....the stuff the creative types hate to do. He isn't a creative and he knows it--he never would've been handed ultimate control of SW, sale or no sale. Prague has a thriving film industry and I'm sure he's getting things done quite well over there.

How does Starkiller aim? Like does the planet move? Or do you have to wait until your orbit and rotation line up with your target.

i think its a space station masked with dirt... I've been reading some hard core theories on how starkiller base doesn't make sense what so ever.. it killing 1 sun would kill everyone on star killer base... and if it wasn't able to move, how could it go get another sun? theres allot of plot holes with star killer base, I'm not a hater but the more i read about it the less believable (even in the star was universe) it is..

I've come to the conclusion its a large death star covered in dirt ;)

Maybe, but how does it have an atmosphere like a planet?

that's another big problem, many have said it was a planet with the super weapon built from the inside out... I wish I could find the YouTube video of the physicist's tearing star killer base apart... they were talking about how the weapon is where the core of the planet is and how you would never be able to get anywhere near the core because of the force of gravity inside

it was actually a really cool video explaining how it wouldn't work, they weren't bashing the movie. just star killer base

some times we have to over look things.. Starkiller base was the only thing that really didn't do it for me in ep7. I wish hey just had huge star destroyers with super weapons on them. why can't Star Wars do that? massive ship with a planet destroying laser gun?

Photosynthesis?

The official explanation is that Starkiller Base was an ice planet that was converted into a base of operations and superweapon by the First Order, using a bunch of phony baloney technology. Star Wars was never based on actual science, so if you start pulling at the loose threads the whole thing unravels like a cheap sweater. Just accept it for what they say it is and move on; you'll sleep better at night. :D
